cosmetics

Assorted cosmetics and tools Cosmetics (also known as makeup or make-up) are care substances used to enhance the appearance or odor of the human body. They are generally mixtures of chemical compounds, some being derived from natural sources and many being synthetics.[1] In the U.S., the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates cosmetics,[2] defines cosmetics as “intended to be applied to the human body for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance without affecting the body’s structure or functions.” The FDA specifically excludes soap from this category.[3] History[edit] The word cosmetics derives from the Greek κοσμητικὴ τέχνη (kosmetikē tekhnē), meaning “technique of dress and ornament”, from κοσμητικός (kosmētikos), “skilled in ordering or arranging”[4] and that from κόσμος (kosmos), meaning amongst others “order” and “ornament”.[5] The first archeological evidence of cosmetics comes from the hollowed out tombs of the Ancient Egyptian pharaohs.[6]Archaeological evidence of cosmetics dates at least from […]

pancake makeup

Thick, unblended foundation on skin Foundation is a skin coloured cosmetic applied to the face to create an even, uniform colour to the complexion, to cover flaws and, sometimes, to change the natural skintone. The animal fat provided a smooth texture, while the tin oxide provided color to the cream.[3] Throughout the Middle Ages in Europe, it was considered fashionable for women to have pale skin, due to the association of tanned skin with outdoors work, and therefore the association of pale skin with affluence. They also applied egg whites to their faces to create a shiny complexion.[5] Many men and women died from wearing lead-based make-up. In the 18th century, Louis XV made it fashionable for men to wear lead-based makeup.[1] Theatrical actors wore heavy white base.[6] In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Victorian women wore little or no makeup. Some women stayed out of the sun, […]

how to do your makeup

Some days I enjoy playing with all the different colors and get excited when my smoky eye turns out perfectly. But then there are those days when my liner refuses to go on straight, my bronzer makes me look like an Asian Snookie, or my lashes refuse to curl. That’s when I want to toss my makeup bag out my bathroom window. I had one of those days last week, and after walking into work wearing two very different winged tips on my eyes, my editor assigned me a new story: Go to makeup school and write about it. Want to see the best techniques I picked up without spending the thousands of dollars (and crazy amount of time) it takes to go to makeup school yourself? Totalbeauty.com / Lesson No. Another tip: You can easily turn a fluffy brush into a flat, angled brush by wrapping your hand around […]

how to do eye makeup for blue eyes

And instead of using black which can sometimes, on blue eyes, look little bit harsh, we’re going to use the dark navy blue and this is really nice to define the eye, bring out the blue but not look too heavy or too dark. So, I’m just going to use some of the navy blue gel liner and I just wanted to define all around the eye. I’m just going to add a little bit of this sparkly blue colour, just really make everything shimmery and a nice evening look. So, you just want a nice wash of the sparkly blue color and because we want the main focus to be on the eye liner and it’s a beautiful navy blue, so I’m just pressing gently all over the lid and into the inner corner just to give a little spark when you just open up. (Remember: warm skin tones […]

gluten free makeup

However, sleuthing out ingredients in makeup products — and then deciphering their chemical names to determine if they actually contain gluten or not — is no small task. To help you wade through the thicket of information and Latin ingredient names, I contacted a wide variety of makeup brands, both small and large, to ask about gluten ingredients in their products. Below (and on the next two pages) are their statements on gluten, and my conclusions about whether you should feel confident using their products, should exercise caution, or should avoid them altogether. In most cases, the decisions will depend on how large a risk of gluten cross-contamination there is in the manufacturing of the products in question. This isn’t a comprehensive list of all the makeup companies doing business today (there are just too many of them to list here), and I don’t list every gluten-free product made by […]

makeup cheap

With a minimum amount spent, you will receive free sample sizes of a variety of products, which usually include best sellers, along with new products the manufacturer is anxious for you to try. A “purchase with purchase” offer is another popular promotion that includes a minimum purchase, but with this offer you receive a group of full-size products packaged together for a low price. An attractive tote bag is usually included as an incentive to make the purchase. The best place to find a makeup discount is when shopping online because online stores have less overhead and more flexibility with pricing. The convenience factor is obvious, but the added advantage of discount pricing makes it worth the effort of checking back on a regular basis.
