famous makeup artists

When we think of the world of fashion, the first two things that come to mind are the models and the designers. Kate Upton, Bar Rafaeli, Brooklyn Decker, Giselle Bundchen and Adriana Lima all go hand in hand with the likes of Giorgio Armani, Prada, Coco Chanel and Versace.  They are all household names with looks that men long for, and creations that women aspire for.

Behind these people however are the make up artists. They have the hands that wield the brushes to make the models look even better than perfect.

Here is a list of the top five most famous make up artists in the world of fashion today.

1. He has also come out with his own book.  His appointment as the creative make up director of Fashion Fair Cosmetics is a perfect fit, as the company is known for producing cosmetic products for women of color.

Fine’s involvement with Fashion Fair Cosmetics will further bolster the company’s aim to provide foundation and powder shades that would work great with any woman regardless of skin color. With Fine’s extensive experience working with African American supermodels, singers and actresses, he will certainly be able to create for Fashion Fair Cosmetics the right products for the everyday woman.

2. Charlie Green

She is considered the Betsey Johnson of the make up artists’ world.  Charlie Green may have what many may consider as whimsical designs, but she is actually just one true artist who uses a woman’s face as her canvas and who does not allow herself to get tied down to any strict rule when it comes to applying make up. Just one glance at her and you will immediately see her free spirit ways, as she always sports bright lipsticks and platinum blonde hair to complement her wacky personality. She then completed an art foundation course in a school in Northampton in England.  She has since gone a long way, working the backstage of the runways of Paris, Milan and New York.  The amazing thing about McGrath is her flexibility and innovativeness. Her growing up in different cultures probably provided her with unique viewpoints and inspirations, which later on influenced her body of work.  Westman is known for her ability to enhance a woman’s look in such a way that she would exude sensuality that is both attractive to men and non-threatening for women. She was tasked to design color collections for the company, as well as style the models for advertisements and represent the company in beauty and fashion events.

Tom Pecheux

Tom is another world-renowned backstage pro whose account is notorious for supermodel selfies and zoom shots of his genius, ultra-precise eye makeup.

Val Garland

Val is more of a conceptual ‘grammer, so you’ll be less likely to see her posting close-ups of Kate Moss and more likely to see very filtered action shots from on-set and the occasional piece of artwork that’s inspiring her. (But any in-the-know beauty junkie already has the entire collection in their Net-a-Porter wish list.) Her account is full of Cara cameos, which are nearly always adorable.

Aaron de Mey

Aaron’s the main makeup man over at Sephora, which makes his globetrotting beauty antics well worth the follow.

Charlotte Willer

If Karlie Kloss’s kiss face is not reason enough to click “follow,” then we don’t know what is.

Sir John

Rare is the man who gets a close-up candid of Beyonc. (For instance, she’s known the pretty girl pictured above since she was a wee little child!) Maybe that’s why her makeup always tends to bring out the best, most radiant aspects of her subjects. (And you can even see it for yourself!)

Isamaya Ffrench

Isamaya can do very pretty makeup, but she’s more widely known in beauty world for her insane face-painting abilities, where she can do anything from recreating iconic artwork to mimicking patterns of fashion designs.

Hung Vanngo

Hung’s Instagram, while beautiful, sadly proves that some supermodels are poreless even without the help of Photoshop.

Lisa Eldridge

The First Lady of YouTube Tutorials also has a massive Instagram following, which regularly features her favorite products and sneak peeks at upcoming videos.

Denika Bedrossian

Ralph Siciliano

One minute, he’s a zombie.

Because (to state the obvious) celebrities always look flawless, but especially when it comes to their makeup.

We were curious as to what makes them so spectacular, what these beauties are doing that we aren’t, and how much effort really goes into their appearances.

So, we went straight to the sources and talked to the prominent makeup artists who celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Jessica Chastain call their sidekicks.

Their perfection can almost seem unattainable, but these pros let us in on how it’s done. The makeup artists who work with a-listers all day also had some refreshing news — you’re more like a celebrity than you think you are.

Everything you’ve wanted to know, from clear skin, to contouring, to how much makeup is actually going on celebrity women’s faces, we got the inside scoop. And we had a ton of fun getting to know the incredible talent behind the world’s most recognizable faces.

Here’s the truth behind what it takes to make up an icon.

Fiona Stiles, The A-List RegularFiona-Stiles2

Celeb Cred: Nikki Reed, Eva Mendez, Jessica Alba, Jessica Chastain, Kate Winslet, Kerry Washington, Zoe Saldana, Heidi Klum, Carine Roitfeld, Camilla Belle, Amy Adams… just to name a few.

On working with celebrity clients:
Real women are much more particular about their looks. Those are two things that really make a difference in how you look in pictures and how you look in real life.

I use just a little bit of silvery highlighter so it gives me a wet look. A little more gold tone to lighten the skin.

Contour powders are amazing as long as you find ones that are not too opaque, not heavily pigmented or like MAC contours — they are really intense. You want something with sheerness.

On the TRUE amount of layers of product a celebrity wears:
We tend to use a lot of product because we’re going for effects. (Pauses to consider.) Nikki Reed at the final “Twilight” premiere.

On the time it takes to get a celebrity ready:
It’s about the same for both celebrities and average women. We tag team at the red carpet.

What would take me an hour is an hour and half because I’m working around the hair dresser.

If I’m getting a bride ready for her wedding, it takes three hours. That’s why I started my site.

Where to get more Fiona and her coveted products:
Reed Clarke, Fiona Stiles’ tightly curated e-commerce beauty site that features her favorite product picks, insightful reviews and badass personality.

Girlfriend has the entire red carpet on speed dial — we’ll listen to anything she writes.

Media cred: “What Not To Wear” on TLC; They are being given — from beauty experts and makeup artists and professional hairdressers and dermatologists — the newest technology. Besides lighting, foundation is the highest level of technology that hasn’t been seen yet.

It’s new extensions that only the top hair extension guru is doing at the moment. As a professional makeup artist, we know about new technologies.

It’s not that [celebrities] are any more special — they have more access. It’s cult things that I just found about on set. I was telling them the same makeup tips and tricks for everybody.

I tell my ladies, Listen, if you all of a sudden decide not to be a housewife, and all of a sudden you’re famous — you’re the celebrity. The only difference is that [celebrities] are recognizable.

On TV versus red carpet makeup:
There’s a difference with HDTV. Getting ready for an event should be fun, not a stressful nightmare.

A look that Carmindy is most proud of:

I’m most proud of (her signature) ‘Five Minute Face.’ It’s a whole cosmetic kit that took a lot of time and effort for what it is. Although it’s sexy on a runway and an 18-year-old model, most women can’t pull it off.

It makes their lips recede and looks harsh and older. We watch her videos while getting ready!

Mario Dedivanovic, The Sought-After Icontop-makeup-artist-Mario-Dedivanovic1

Celeb bestie: Kim Kardashian, ’nuff said.

On why you don’t look like a celebrity when you leave your house:
We use products to contour and highlight. It’s a team effort to come up with a look.

The amount of time it takes to get his clients looking glam:
Twenty minutes to an hour.

What he loves about Kim’s face (besides, like, everything):
She is gorgeous. Also another was from Khloe’s “Unbreakable” fragrance launch party in LA.

KIM KARDASHIAN at Unbreakable Fragrance Launch

Make-up trends he loves and hates:
I don’t follow trends. (Editor’s note: Did we mention how cool Mario is?)

In his make-up kit:
My MAKE UP FOR EVER concealer, Shu Uemura lash curler, Orgasm blush by NARS, black smolder by MAC and beauty blender.

Where to get more Mario:
Thank goodness for us fans, Mario is very active on Twitter and frequently posts his latest looks on Instagram.

I’d like to share with you the thinking behind my Professional Finish Makeup range.

To achieve your perfect look you need to select the most suitable makeup and apply it correctly. I’ve worked in the beauty industry, as an International makeup artist, for over 25 years and discovered through experience what works and what doesn’t.

My makeup is easy and quick to apply and contains the best ingredients. I‘ve simplified how you choose products that complement your colouring so that with just three or four essential items you can look how you want to in super- quick time.

I feel there is a lot of unfair pressure on women to look as perfect as airbrushed images of celebrities and models, which upsets me. They’re also featured editorially in magazines week after week and gain 5 star reviews by beauty journalists and wearers alike.

The professional finish you get with my brand means your makeup lasts longer on skin and are a dream to apply, even in more testing environments such as heat or humidity.

Kim’s bottom might have almost broken the internet, but Kylie Jenner’s lips have also made their fair share of headlines in recent weeks.

The youngest Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has been been repeatedly criticised for her pouty social media snaps, with many claiming that her full lips are the result of cosmetic surgery.

But in an exclusive interview with FEMAIL, Kylie’s make-up artist rubbishes reports that the 17-year-old’s lips are fake and reveals that it’s actually very simple to recreate her look.

Perfect pout: Kylie Jenner, 17, has been showing her full lips on social media in recent weeks and now her make-up artist Rob Scheppy has revealed how he achieves the look

Sharing the two-product secret behind Kylie’s perfect pout, Rob Scheppy said: ‘I find it funny that so much attention is drawn to my work, but I like it.

‘Kylie’s lips are created using expertly applied lip liner and a little lip balm.’

And it seems her sisters agree – Kim recently told MailOnline that she takes inspiration from her younger sister.

She said: ‘I live with Kylie so every time she’s putting on her lashes or putting on her lip liner, I ask her for advice on how she does it so perfectly. Magazine alleged the reality star has had a nose job, lip fillers and Botox.

But a representative for Miss Jenner told Mail Online: ‘That’s so ridiculous and not true.’

Get the look: Rob loves using MAC lip liners on Kylie and swears by Eyeko products, right, which Alexa Chung is the face of

Rob, who has been working with the family for years, is often described as the man who pioneered contouring, using Kim Kardashian as his muse.

But despite the acclaim, Rob is extremely modest about the success of his work.

He said: ‘I’m not sure if that’s true.

27, 2014 at 9:58 AM ET

Get ready to see several famous faces, but not a single real celebrity. Well, that’s her favorite, and it’s easy to see why:

Malone-Guerbaa isn’t the only makeup artist making a name for herself with amazing celebrity makeovers. On Friday, Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford took a close look at the head-turning star transformations of Lucia Pittalis.

It’s double the double-takes with these women, but in the case of Malone-Guerbaa, there’s no stopping at the stars.

It’s no secret that we have a bit of an obsession with celebrity beauty. Rarely do you find a famous face who does her own makeup (except for Kate Middleton doing her wedding makeup herself), which makes knowing the famous celebrity makeup artists just as important as knowing the famous faces they work on.

From Pat McGrath to Joyce Bonelli, we found the 15 best celebrity makeup artists to follow on Instagram.
