funnest

The funnest way to contract diseases usually involve three women, two men, a broken condom, a goat, and a cheese grater.
"That was the funnest time ever!" exclaimed Sarah.

The issue if "if it's in the dictionary, it's a word" misses some subtlety, no? Of course funnest is a word, in the sense that people use it.
What sort of language are you trying to use it in? Formal, casual, written, spoken, etc? It's in the Oxford English dictionary, so I would say that it is a word.
If people consistently understand you, it's a word — but in the case of "funnest", it is heavily informal and might sound uneducated if used in all situations.
Some English traditionalists claim that the only correct comparative form of the adjective fun is more fun, that the only superlative is most fun, and that funner and funnest are only appropriate in the most informal contexts.
For now, the fact remains that funner and funnest are, erroneously or not, still considered unacceptable by many editors and other careful English users.
"diversion, amusement," 1727, earlier "a cheat, trick" (c.1700), from verb fun (1680s) "to cheat, hoax," of uncertain origin, probably a variant of Middle English fonnen "befool" (c.1400; see fond).
Stigmatized by Johnson as "a low cant word." Older sense is preserved in phrase to make fun of (1737) and funny money "counterfeit bills" (1938, though this may be more for the sake of the rhyme).
As the two imps clash, Superman, Batman, Robin, the Joker, and Luthor are killed, as are all the other heroes who come to their aid (including Batwoman, Bat-Girl and Supergirl, the Justice League, the Legion of Super-Pets, the Legion of Super-Heroes and the Spectre).
The rest of the book follows the formula of each new world they encounter being destroyed in the battle between the two imps, Bat-Mite fleeing and Mxyzptlk pursuing to another universe/world which is then destroyed.
The story starts in typical Silver Age comics series World’s Finest-style with Superman, Batman and Robin handing over the supervillain team of Lex Luthor and the Joker to the authorities.
Superman and Batman: World’s Funnest is an American single issue prestige format comic book published in 2000 by DC Comics.
Ultimately, having worked their way through to the Kingdom Come universe, Mxyzptlk simply throws a "magic bomb" at Bat-Mite who deflects it back with the helmet of Kingdom Come’s Flash (the only thing that survived).
Its setting is a multiverse similar to the pre-crisis DCU but also includes references to other Elseworlds tales (Kingdom Come and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns), the modern DCU, The DCAU and even pays a visit to Crisis on Infinite Earths.
The use of fun as an adjective is itself still often seen as informal[1] or casual[2] and to be avoided in formal writing, and this would apply equally to the superlative form.
Merriam-Webster gives fun as an adjective without comment, and states that funner and funnest are "sometimes" used[3].
While funnest is a regular superlative of the adjective fun, the superlative most fun is much more common.
The result is that you regularly come across expressions like this party is fun, it’s really fun, we’re going to have a fun time tonight, that game was more fun than the last one, where the distinction between noun and adjective is decidedly blurred (some of these go back a long way in American and British English, especially regionally; I’m happy to use all of them myself, though that view is not shared by everyone).
But it’s often difficult to work out exactly what job a word is doing in an English sentence, because it’s so easy to shift about between using a word as a straight noun, as in “the television is on”, and using it to modify another noun, as in “the television show has finished”.
The move to adjective has gone so far in the USA that its comparative and superlative are not infrequently found in informal writing: funner for ‘more fun’ and funnest for ‘most fun’ (“basketball is funner than football, and soccer is the funnest game of all”).
The German-born Zwanzger, who grew up in Munich and who has lived in Berlin, Dubai and London, says he judges a theme park not just on the quality of the rides but on whether the attraction’s creators achieved the vision and atmosphere they set out to create.
For Stefan Zwanzger, who’s visited no fewer than 264 parks in 92 countries in his guise as "The Theme Park Guy" — a self-funded roving reviewer of gated entertainment centers around the world — it’s when all of the above combine to work their magic.
Zwanzger names Japan’s DisneySea as the world’s funnest theme park because of its unique Jules Verne-themed science-fiction-meets-ocean concept.
Zwanzger says: "This huge theme park is China’s answer to Disney.
With quality imported rides, Russia’s first theme park, Sochi Park Adventureland, creates a window into a fascinating country.
"This is Russia’s first ever theme park, and it’s an ambitious project with a big budget and quality rides imported from Europe.
Zwanzger says: "This is a very low budget theme park and that’s what makes it so much fun.
Zwanzger says: "This park is based around a truly unique concept, with science fiction author Jules Verne at its center.
It was probably from there that "fun" worked its way from noun to adjective. In English, nouns often end up becoming adjectives too (1, 2).
You could say, "I ate a sugar cookie" or "I ate a yummy cookie." The sentences are constructed the same way, but "sugar" is an attributive noun and "yummy" is an adjective.
In that sentence “fun” is an adjective that modifies the noun “party.” It was a fun party.
How "fun" made its way from a noun to an adjective is a great illustration of how language can change over time.
The Oxford English Dictionary notes a few uses of "fun" as an attributive noun such as "fun fair" and "fun-fest" in the early 1900s.
In the phrase "sugar cookie," "sugar" is a noun, but it's being used in an attributive way to describe the cookie.
People at the same party may disagree about whether they had fun, whereas they would probably all agree that they had cake, but “fun” and “cake” are both nouns.
But now we head down the slippery slope of fun because many modern sources grudgingly accept that “fun” can also be used as an adjective, as in “Squiggly throws a fun party” (1, 3).
I suspect that many of you listening probably use “fun” as an adjective without even thinking about it, and it doesn't sound strange to your ears, but remember, that wasn't always the case.
A few sources note that using "fun" as an adjective is a generational thing.
For example, you could say, “We had fun,” which is the grammatical equivalent of “We had cake.” Fun is more of an abstract thing than cake, but they're both nouns.

Nestled comfortably between the excitement of big events like Bunbury, Taste of OTR and Lumenocity and the anticipation of looking forward to heavy hitters like Midpoint and Riverfest, Second Sunday On Main is sticking it out as the neighborhood’s favorite goodtime chillfest monthly celebration — and these Sunday Fundays are only getting better.
Don’t let Gerald Collins’ classy appearance fool you; his angsty, sometimes James Brown-esque shrieking vocals (re: “Jerk Me Around”) shred the lines between punk rock and 90’s alternative in a mixed-tempo roller coaster that races around crafty guitar solos and fits of Collins concerted rage.

NBC's The Voice whips into live playoffs Monday (May 6), and before that happens, a word from Team Blake mentor Sheryl Crow.
“Obviously I didn’t work with all the coaches, but Blake Shelton is the funnest person, and who you see on TV is who he is,” Sheryl told reporters recently.

Only the funnest of fun games can be put in here.
If “The funnest ever” proves to be unpopular with word pros, it’ll be the second time an Apple slogan has been linguistically controversial: “Think Different” provided lots of fodder for debate.
The other thing that’s interesting–and yes, even fun–about “The funnest iPod ever” is its suggestion that Apple is going to be really serious about mobile gaming.
So I hereby officially approve of Apple’s tagline for the new, slimmer iPod Touch: “The funnest iPod ever.” Sure, “The Most Fun iPod Ever” is grammatically unassailable and means the same thing.
The “funnest” iPod? Really? Aren’t we as Americans stupid enough (see the last eight years or the fact that most of us can’t find Iraq or Afghanistan on a map)? Do we really need to further butcher the English language? Now every teenybopper is going to be even more illiterate.

Hollywood star Angelina Jolie says some of her children found her and fiance Brad Pitt’s hit action film ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ as the “funnest thing ever”.
The 38-year-old actress raises six children with Pitt and the ones, who have seen the film, which sparked their real life love affair, found it hilarious, reported Contactmusic.
“With DiaPort, the insulin starts working with 4-5 minutes, and peaks at 25 minutes, versus 45 minutes delivered the regular way,” says Rem Laan, the brand new executive director of the Sansum Diabetes Research Institute, who was previously with Roche.

Zisser talked about was dropping the notion of “treating to target” in favor of “treating to zone” because I’m hearing more of this from other researchers, including those at other University.
