The Settlers Online is a free browser based strategy game with gameplay that falls somewhere between Age of Empires and the online strategy genre.
Our collection of like Evony offers a great collection of browser based strategy , find a new MMORTS to play now.

There is no shortage of browser based strategy games out there and while at first glance Forge of Empires might just seem like another one in the genre it’s got some redeeming features that make it one of the decent offerings in this overcrowded space.
Story driven and browser based strategy game don’t usually go hand in hand but Stormfall: Age of War changes all that by introducing a strong storyline supported by voice acting to enhance your whole experience.
Galaxy on Fire Alliances brings the series into the world of online play with a third game which follows a MMO strategy style.
joins the ranks of other massively multiplayer real time strategy games and is one of the better options out there, especially if you prefer a war based setting over the saturated medieval MMORTS market.
Wild Guns brings the popular browser MMO strategy genre to the Wild West and is a great change of pace from the usual medieval focused games in the genre.
Dark Age Wars offers an online strategy experience and is set in a medieval game world.
Now you can fight with the Spartans in Sparta: War of Empires, an online real time strategy game that puts you in charge of the army against the Persian forces.
War of Legends belongs to the huge genre of strategy MMO games but puts a different spin on the genre by drawing on Chinese mythology rather than the medieval setting of many similar games.
Unlike previous additions in the franchise though the game is free to play and is a browser based experience.

The battle is text-based as default but we can switch it to animation which is flash based! What sets this game apart from other browser-based games of its kind is its rich gameplay content and visual appeal, and that it encourages players to get involved with the community in real-time.
The game features hundreds of class-specialized pieces of equipment, events to promote player interaction, hundreds quests with thousands of lines of insightful NPC dialogue, hundreds of unique animated graphics, a distinct user interface with customizable elements, and several other systems to put twists into your otherwise ordinary RPG.

All those games that say they are free to play are truly free.  You can’t really sue them for that.  My game was free to play too, unless you wanted to excel in the game.  Then you would see that, unless you paid real money, you would be left in the dust by the people that spent money.  That’s how they trap you.  You get addicted and then NEED to spend money to feed your addiction.  It works!  I’m so glad I’m not caught in that trap anymore.
To coin or not to coin…a big issue for the players on that game BUT now that I’m an ex evony player, I shouldn’t care, it is my own fault for being sucked in, tho it would be nice if evony or other games had some accountability to time/money spent on there (instead of real time, maybe a paused game where you didnt have to feel like you have to play 24/7)…or better rates for pricing.

In fact Innogames plans to bring all their browser-based games similar to Evony to Android.
Welcome to the official DroidGamers forums as well as the Mecha Indie Android game store, or just Mecha for short.
Developers can post about their new games, set up their own blog to stay in touch with fans, hold tournaments and giveaways, and even sell their games right here.

Maybe you’ve played Galaxy on Fire before and maybe you haven’t regardless of that you’ll really enjoy what the game offers in one of the few good space based games like Evony that are out there (it’s also one of the few available on your mobile which makes it particularly attractive since I’m big on gaming right now).
I went on the long search for some other browser based strategy alternatives and found some really good options that provided a different theme to the medieval type theme that Evony offered.
If you check out the game on the you might notice that the game is set within the same universe as the Galaxy on Fire space trading games (which are worth checking out if you haven’t played them before).

On a side note, I really like that Electronic Arts is starting to embrace the ‘free to play’ model as I’m a big fan of both Battlefield Heroes and Battleforge (the two other free to play games they publish).
I’ve actually had the chance to play many of them and it’s really a shame that MMO game developers are making these games when they could be making ‘NEW’ games rather than rehashing old ideas and releasing them as new games.
I’m not trying to give credit to Evony as being the ‘first’ strategy MMO, as it’s not, I’m just using it as an example as it’s one of the most popular in the genre and a game most of us are familiar with.
As a gamer, it sort of sucks to see game developers exhausting all of their energy churning out strategy games that are all identical to each other.
Needless to say, War of Legends and Lord of Ultima are for all practical purposes the ‘same exact game’ as Evony as well as every other game in the genre.
The amount of browser based strategy games that play exactly like each other easily trumps the number of WoW clones out there.
I’m talking about games like Travian and Evony where users have to build up their empires and wage war with each other.
It’s not that I don’t like these kinds of games, I do, as I’ve always been a fan of the real time strategy genre.
My complaint with these games is that practically every single browser based strategy game is the same.

Sparta: War of Empires is another one of the big browser based strategy MMOs and takes place in Sparta (making it a great game like Grepolis as well).
The game takes place in the Middle Ages and has players take control of a small village and eventually take over other villagers.
Tribal Wars 2 (or TW) is a browser based MMO real time strategy game like Evony.
Travian is another browser based game like Evony with a military focus that draws inspiration from the Roman Empire.
This page aims to collect a large variety of MMO games like Evony, be sure to stop by the comment section to share your favourite or let us know about a game like Evony that we missed.
The game follows the standard strategy game formula, giving you control over a small settlement and allowing you to eventually turn it into a strong and established base.
The majority of the game is accessed through the main screen (which is a text and graphic interface), from here players can construct buildings, recruit soldiers and control your troops.
With several different resources to fuel your settlement and recruit military focused units there is plenty of strategy hidden in the game.
Goodgame Empire is another medieval themed game like Evony and is one of the few multi platform games out there.
is a great strategy game option that takes place in a dystopia world which has been ravaged by war.
This means that players can enjoy the game from their mobile device (iOS and Android) or play it in your browser.
Sparta Wars: Elite Edition is another free browser game like Evony that is set in ancient Greece as you lead the Spartans in the thing that they the most, war.
These guilds known as tribes are of great importance within the game and are used for protection and to co-ordinate attacks, tribes can also form alliances with other tribes.
Sparta: War of Empires has also been compared to the popular MMO strategy game Travian (also featured on this page).
Great list! I came upon this post while looking for a game like evony, without alliances.
Since the game runs in real-time players needs only spend a minimal amount of time online to assign tasks to their town and it’s inhabitants.
The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth is another popular free strategy game for your mobile device.

Are there any games similar to Evony from a building aspect, but without the fighting? I’m not really big on that aspect of the game and have just been abandoning my cities after Beginner protection wears off.

What are some games like Evony, and Clash of Clans? Games where you have to build your own Kingdom/City, whatever.

Basics are identical to evony, but there’s a lot of extras; heroes get various different equipment items to increase stats, and they even get a few more stats (and with it an extra research at the academy).
On top of that, the cs stuff is not only remarkeably cheap and balanced, but they’re extremely trigger-happy in givin’ out free Runes (cs currency) to people to play about with, and even have official invite systems that reward the invited, official and fair VMs and account sittin’ (that are pw-friendly and abuse-smart) and decent inactivity deletion rules.
However there are numerous free and daily quests that reward you with small amounts of resources for loggin’ in, as well as the amulet equivelant, and "epic" quests which allow you to spend resources in 100k increments to trade for prestige and a quest item, which can later be traded for hero equipment.
My game at midievilwars is progressing slowly… A lot of things you need to be upgraded on other things… It all grips into eachother, but it’s quite a puzzle to find out when you’re still on the basics.
There’s no upkeep, construction times are chosen by you to suit when you will be there and be away, you can assign troops to your heroes and send them off; they don’t go on railroad trips, but can be changed course mid march and even left to stand in the middle of nowhere indefinitely, with an army.

You may have a problem looking for an online civ-ish game for free that doesn’t have the problems you mention.
i am not looking for some military game only, where being some military strategy expert is practically required.
A full game lasts two hours or so, and you can play solo if you wish with AI opponents to learn the ropes.
I am looking for a downloadable game, something like evony, but not browser based.
Not free but should be cheap: Check into an older version of the Age of Empires series or the pretty similar Rise of Nations (both from Microsoft).
Exploration, research and resource gathering are all integral to game play as well.
ok, i know there was an evony question recently, but that was for a similar browswer style game.

I haven’t played Evony so I wouldn’t know much about it but a new game is in Closed Beta right now in which you can construct a city and manage it…Cities XL.
The benefits of a time based game is that you don’t always have to be playing it to be the best because there is time when you’re building new stuff and don’t need to be present for this process.

"Initially, the goal was to get the game in front of as many people as possible," says Darold Higa, a lead producer on Evony who joined the company in 2010.
"One of the games we always talk about is Settlers – how can we get that kind of play that’s graphically appealing and yet has this whole element of an MMORTS game? That was the kernel of the idea.
Development on Evony began in 2006, and while the game has been compared to Sid Meier’s Civilization, Higa says that the roots of the game came from the desire to create a type of game that didn’t yet exist.
Higa says that browser-based games tend to have a psychological barrier for a lot of gamers, especially hardcore players, but the game has been able to attract a loyal community that comprises of gamers of all backgrounds – hardcore players included.
"Being perfectly honest, it’s incredibly hard to launch in this kind of environment, especially when you don’t have a retail box and you don’t have a presence on shelves when people go to buy a game," he says.
"The whole idea with a browser-based free-to-play game like Evony is to put it in front of a large an audience as possible and say ‘Here you go, try it for yourself’.
"Ironically, a lot of that bias actually comes from the game development community itself," says Higa.

so today i would like to share this new game called, uprising empires, looks really great.

The game, Evony, has an extensive Web presence that has gained a lot of attention for all the wrong reasons, and that’s just the beginning of the bad press surrounding the title.
The first crack in the game’s façade is that Evony’s original title —Civony— was a little too close to Sid Meier’s classic Civilization for some critics’ comfort.
Once players advance past level five, fees are necessary to fully play the game; even basic actions like sending in-game messages will cost players a nominal amount of cash.
Of course, the game’s publisher quickly denied responsibility for this spamming, instead claiming that it was the result of "some players [who] have abusively and unethically engaged in spamming practices," via a program known as iEvony.
Even if you’ve never played Evony, odds are that you’ve been startled by at least one ad for the game while you surfed the Web.
One of the tamer ads shows a woman in jeans and a tank top, with a lot of attention being heaped on her cleavage (accompanied by the confusing tagline, "Play the new game everyone’s talking about.
I just started playing this new game called evony.
I just found this cool new game called evony.
Even though the game is technically free to play, upgrading units and issuing commands takes a bit of time to actually accomplish.
Not only did PopCap’s ads feature (sort-of) busty female zombies showing off their sagging assets and remaining teeth, but the ads also included similarly nonsensical slogans sported in Evony’s.

I’ve played Evony alot, but i don’t have the money to spend, or the political ability(if that makes sense) to keep myself at the same level as these other players once the server get’s older, and i no longer have enough time to upkeep my profile on games like Evony, Farmville etc.
