games like gta

The game allowed you to fully explore the famous fake city, solving absurd and random happenings as they occur — such as Kang and Kodos using soda to make people go insane — and cause a ton of GTA-style havoc as you do it.
Whereas GTA might take itself a little too seriously for a game where just about everyone who’s played it piles up as many cars as possible in an intersection and then watches other cars crash into them, Saints Row realizes people get a little wacky when faced with an open world crime game.

Grand Theft Auto clones allow players to freely explore the game world,[5] which is typically on the scale of an entire city.[27] Some base their level design on real world cities, such as London, New York City, and Los Angeles.[5] Players are usually able to navigate by vehicle or on foot.[28][29] Some put greater emphasis on leaping, climbing,[5] and even swimming.[30] Exploring the world is not just necessary to complete objectives, but also to gain valuable items, weapons, and vehicles.
Open-world, 3D action-adventure games existed for years prior to the release of any similar game from the Scottish developer DMA Design.[36] Mercenary (1985) has been described as a major ancestor to the Grand Theft Auto series, because it featured an open world which the player could explore freely.[12] The Terminator, released in 1990, was a free-form, open-world game that set its action in a modern-day city that extended for miles, and included the ability to fire at civilians and steal cars.
DMA Design began pursuing open-world game design with the first Grand Theft Auto,[13] which allowed players to commandeer various automobiles and shoot various weapons within a mission-based structure.[40] Unlike later games in the series, and indeed many earlier influences, the first two GTA games were 2D.
Grand Theft Auto clone is a genre of open world or sandbox action-adventure video games, characterized by their likeness to the Grand Theft Auto series in either gameplay, or overall design.

This is one of my favorite topics, (because I'm building one of these games myself).  The answer is not simple – it's basically a combination of many techniques that come together to produce the result specifically for your game.  Minecraft uses procedural generation, and therefore has an "infinite" landscape, while GTA is more hand made, but is still an "open world" game.
It's time for a bughunt! Typo spotted in the French translation of the game? Game stops loading after Xbox One's middle button is pressed and switched to profile 2? Someone is going to have to file bugs into a bug database so they don't ship a faulty game or spend unnecessary resources on delivering patches in the future.
Sure, writers and designers create many possible scenarios, variations and branches, but if the player does not feel like they are making their own way through the game world, it is not an open world game.
Since the game is going to be distributed worldwide there's going to have to be a team for translators, voice actors who speak in different languages, and localization personal.
If the engine does not provide all of the features your game requires – a 98% probability since it is written for the general case – you'll need to write some "native code" in the guts of the engine itself.

Players are free to roam the open game world and solve the main storyline as they please, similar to the gameplay of inFamous and the GTA series.

The Godfather game even features some of the original actors from The Godfather film and follows the original film and series quite closely so fans of the series will feel right at home.
It was also highly praised for containing one of the biggest cities to appear in a video game for its time (2002) which also included a variety of transportation types.Unfortunately the console ports for Xbox and PlayStation didn’t live up to expectations and as such console users will want to avoid the original game and look into Mafia II.
The game is available on Xbox, PS2 and PC with the story, dialogue and voices created by the same people behind The Simpsons which helps you feel like you are entering the world of Springfield.

Based off of the award winning original Mafia video game, Mafia 2 explores the world of early to mid 20th century organized crime within an open world environment.
While the game is set in an open world environment with vehicles and weapons like in GTA, it is much more story and character driven.
If you like the Mafia genre and open world games, Mafia 2 is definitely the best game out there right now.
From ridiculous zombie grunting character voice options, to animal mascot suits, or sexy cowgirl outfits, the Saints Row series is outrageously politically incorrect and – dare we say it – downright fun! You can pick the game up at Amazon for cheapest price at roughly $30 (with free shipping).
The Fallout series has become one of the mainstays of the open world game genre.

In a perky cheery voice "Look at all these games that are as good or better than GTA" Its just a bit sad that rather than admit you guys screwed up by making a moral judgment (that the game is sexist) on a god damn GTA game affect your rating of the game.
A game that shows men off to be violent, cheating assholes is degrading to women…. even though it has powerful women making powerful derisions, like Michaels wife leaving him or that PA woman…. there are no "normal" decent nice guys in the whole game, and there never has been.
@Raxyman @uprentiss so infants swear? I know very smart people who swear regularly, does that make them dumb? also you are an idiot and have no idea what you are talking about so you should not speak on subjects yuo think you know unless you have facts which yuo do not because sleeping dogs is a clone of gta since its first parts "true crime" was derived from gta.
OWG? Really? Did you even realise that the abbreviation is actually longer to pronounce than the phrase it stands for? ‘oh double-u gee’ has TWO MORE syllables than ‘open world game’, for God’s sake.

Mafia 2 is an awesome Open world mission game just like Grand Theft Auto with amazing graphics and speed.

Thompson says video game companies had reason to foresee that some of their products would trigger violence, and bolsters his case with claims that the murders in Fayette were not the first thought to be inspired by Grand Theft Auto.
Two weeks ago, a multi-million dollar lawsuit was filed in Alabama against the makers and marketers of Grand Theft Auto, claiming that months of playing the game led a teenager to go on a rampage and kill three men, two of them police officers.
"You’ve got probably millions of kids out there playing violent games like Grand Theft Auto and other violent games, who never hurt a fly," says Bradley.
Both Wal-Mart and GameStop, where Moore purchased Grand Theft Auto, say they voluntarily card teenagers in an effort to keep violent games from underage kids.
David Walsh, a child psychologist who’s co-authored a study connecting violent video games to physical aggression, says the link can be explained in part by pioneering brain research recently done at the National Institutes of Health — which shows that the teenage brain is not fully developed.

Simcity should have lots of ferries, and the ability to select their route (x-y), and get on it at a dock, select your ferry, and select your size of terminal.
I mean from the view of the Cab, like GTA3, drive around on different views, actualy get onto ferries, different types of teminals and ships.
Why limited? I don’t know, but it’s supposed to have the best graphics and everything because it’s going to be the last and I think the people who made GTA have been working on it since GTA3 was created which was like in 2001-2? and should come out some time in the next year or so I think.
you can drive sims’ cars on missions in your created town in Sim City 4 with the rush hour expansion pack.
So Simcity 5 can use 2D view, 3D view, and a Driver’s view of a vehicle, and you can drive on a ferry.

I mean this is 2013 ffs, we now have 2 awesome gta ports available on appstore at similar price , we have idevices multiple times faster than what we had back in 2011(last gangstar game), competition go stronger than ever for gameloft, yet they still act as if nothing had happened in the last two years,.Im not going into details as i wont bother downloading this, but from the videos ive seen and all surrounding reactions it seems really bizarre some of the poor decisions made by GL.

GTA III definitely changed the entire landscape of gaming, I loved that game, played it to death…but for some reason, while I played Vice City and San Andreas I don’t recall actually getting immersed into those, because of that I avoided GTA IV for the the longest time.
I’ve played my fair share of open-world driving games over the past few years, but none of them have matched the way you can immerse yourself because of all the random things that happen without your direct involvement.
I’ve played my fair share of open-world driving games over the past few years, but none of them have matched the way you can immerse yourself because of all the random things that happen without your direct involvement.
One day I found the Complete Edition of GTA IV for $20, decided I needed a new Sandbox game (Sandbox/Open World are my favorite types of games), and while that game pissed me off every time I played it, I couldn’t put it down at the same time.
When I played GTA 3 for the first time, I was shocked how the game camera changed into realistic view and gameplay was pure fun.
I have played GTA Vice City, I liked many things on this game.

If you're a mom or dad and you've got a child who is just dying to play that hot, new violence simulator known as Grand Theft Auto V, it's time to channel your inner 90s marketing campaign, the one that pushes you through to the end of your spin class, and tell them "No".
You won't be able to keep your children from disappointment and you won't be able to keep them from the things they really want to do, but at least you could create an environment where they're not only responsible for their actions, but one where you're aware of them and what's going on in their lives at the same time.
Keeping your kids out of M-rated games will prove as impossible as it was for your parents to keep you from seeing R-rated movies or drinking in high school.

Bushman, who in his 2006 study “When God Sanctions Killing: Effect of scriptural violence on aggression” linked reading Bible verses with subsequent violence behavior, told Chairman Wolf and the rest of the House Commerce, Justice and Related Agencies sub-committee that video games cause young minds to become violent minds and should be restricted by the government, both content and users.
This narrative has been the theme of numerous congressional hearings, held by both Republicans and Democrats, designed to create a political environment where video games are stripped of First Amendment rights and placed under the regulatory regime of the federal government.
Blaming video games is convenient and compelling, but if we really start pardoning spree shooters for their crimes and blame role-playing shooter or combat video games it will be a serious modification of the contract between free people and their government.

Those “instant gratification types” have become cash cows for the gaming industry, from big spenders in Zynga’s Facebook games to the “World of Warcraft” faithful that keep Activision’s coffers well lined and the “Candy Crush Saga” addicts that have its maker preparing to file for an IPO.
There were plenty of headlines for game maker Take-Two Interactive last week when it announced that “Grand Theft Auto V” had raked in over $1 billion in sales within three days of its release.
You can either quickly accumulate cash through profitable activities like knocking over armored cars, winning street races, doing stick-ups or a host of other cash-making endeavors – or if you’re the completely instant gratification type, you can choose to buy denominations of GTA$.

Call of Duty are opposed to the move on the grounds as they want it to remain clear their video games are clearly fictitious.
The organisation want those who kill civilians and prisoners in shooters like Call of Duty to face penalites for their offences.
Call of Duty: Ghosts executive produced Mark Rubin said: "A lot of the stuff that we show in the game has been done by someone, but it’s not a representation of what [veterans] do or it’s not an equivalent in any way of what they do.
THE RED CROSS has called for video games to follow real-world international laws and for those who break them to face in-game punishment.
Shooting innocent people, torture, attacking ambulances and murdering prisoners are all areas the world-wide group want to address.

While Zelnick assured that the company is still committed to bringing its catalog of family oriented and sports titles to Nintendo’s next console, the company’s “core” games like Grand Theft Auto are less assured.
In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Zelnick said he’s skeptical of bringing those games to the Wii U, “We haven’t announced anything,” and the publication doesn’t think that’s going to change anytime soon.

In AC you will get something similar, however it also has missions that are completely separate from the main game world (at least in AC3), those missions could be considered to be a level but I probably wouldn’t refer to the whole of a city as being it’s own level (unless it’s self contained, the AC series changes from game to game quite a bit, the original might not have had the open game world that the later ones had in which case each city might be considered to be a level).
I would consider levels to be self contained discrete chunks and generally provide a one directional linear progression through the game world (although there are exceptions, for example hidden levels).
I'd only add the the term "level", to me, is very much like the term "chapter" to an author (as Hackworth said "Level typically means a secluded, in itself complete portion of the game, mostly independent of the rest").

How has a video game, so similar in form to its predecessors (it’s typical of the Grand Theft Auto series: You play as violent, morally challenged men looking to pull off six big heists), become so popular? For one thing, the Grand Theft Auto series has a huge amount of momentum: The 14 previous iterations of the series have built up a large and devoted fan base.
The increasing sophistication of the GTA world also raises the question of whether video games might be growing ever closer to breaking through as not only the most lucrative creative products but also the most influential; while GTA 5’s release made more money than any movie’s, it’s still Hollywood that tells the stories that most capture mainstream society’s attention.
But it’s quite true: The video game Grand Theft Auto 5, which came out last Tuesday, raked in over $1 billion in just three days, faster than any movie or video game to date.

Simple natural selection.  Guardian is stupid enough to own a gun that isn’t in a safe place and let their 8 year old play a video game meant for people over twice that age.  Deserves any stupid thing coming to her.  There’s a shocking number of people that get killed by guns they own.

Explore the world, go to the beach and live a life in a video game.
I’m getting a new PS3! I’m more hyped for that than the game itself.
I’m getting a new PS3! I’m more hyped for that than the game itself.
I think first I would play a few missions then save my game.
The gameplay looks great, but the storyline… very recycled.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely enjoy open world games, just not GTA.
The gameplay looks great, but the storyline… very recycled.
This game’s gonna be real big.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely enjoy open world games, just not GTA.
This game’s gonna be real big.

You can keep a track of your progress via the Start menu by pausing the game and selecting : Stats –> General, and then looking at your Playing Time as well as your complete percentage, which will amount to 60% upon completion of the last story mission if no other activities have been completed.
In addition, there are 25 Gang Wars and 12 Bike Races, both are side missions that you may need to do a few times for two of the trophies, though you do NOT need to win any of the races and the Gang Wars are rather unnecessary but they do make one of the trophies easier to obtain (See "Full Chat" trophy description for more info).
It is only if you reach the end of the story mode with Roman's likeness never having been at or above 60% and you choose the 'Deal' mission thread that you will not be able to obtain this trophy.
For random character locations and story mission prerequisites to trigger their appearance, see the "No More Strangers" trophy description where you can also find a map showing their locations.
Provided you followed my advice in the last Step and chose the 'Revenge' mission thread over the 'Deal' mission thread, you will have no trouble with the "Driving Mr Bellic" trophy.

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming sandbox third-person shooter, and while we can’t let the glaring similarities to the Grand Theft Auto series go without mention, we might just let it slide for the impressive undertaking of bringing that style of game to and tablets.

Eurogamer has been told by a credible industry source that Realtime Worlds bought the All Points Bulletin licence back from publisher Webzen so that it could try and sell it to Rockstar as GTA Online.

My clinical work and research suggests that children get far more from video games when their parents play together with them, when they initiate metacognitive discussions with them about how they made decisions in their gaming, and when they engage in activities that practice game-based skills in real world activities.
My friend is as much into gaming as I am, we both play the same games for hours at a time, but she recently was caught by her mother "not socializing" and being the person with the camera taking a picture of her crush and his friends so her mother grounded her from everything, gave her an hour of any type of screentime and makes her talk to people in the streets for at least another hour each day so she can learn to "socialize".
In my work with kids and video games I came up with a term that parallels Csikszentmihalyi's description of flow; "engamement", where the child is cognitively immersed in game play.
So don't stop gaming kids just make sure its an online social game like GTA 5 or cod ghost something where u can associate with other people don't be weird and play by Ur self that's how u can make a video game bad for u cause u don't associate with anyone.
We decided to pull the youngest 2 out of school after many problems with the headteacher and my sons regular illnesses due to stress, since we pulled him out he has responded very well and is now learning quicker and is alot happier and healthier, now to my point,he and my daughter play games such as minecraft, and little big planet regularly it helps with many aspects such as planning, socialisation, sharing and caring organisation of priorities aswell as timekeeping and meeting deadlines, amongst other things, but i have made an observation,i personally play Evony (mmorpg) this game is brilliant for teaching math to say the least,it involves working percentages, ratios, and constantly tweaking numbers to beat other numbers.
It's difficult for most parents to allow their kids to play video games for hours and hours every day.
I recently took my two nephews to Chicago for three days and the 11 year old didn't want to leave the hotel room – his "choice" of what to do was always watch tv and play video games, even when the sky was the limit on what to do.
And their lazy parents making themselves feel better by thinking that they are bringing up little geniuses… While agreeing that the video games are not evil I still believe that children need to learn to communicate, explore and live in the REAL world to be able to enjoy the REAL things in adulthood.
It is important to remember that most video games are not developed with specific learning outcomes in mind — they are all about story line and game play.
I encourage parents to be participants and not observers (just like they would with board games and sports) if they want to make video game play worthwhile for their children.
If you feel like your SO isn't balancing their game time effectively, it's probably not the fault of video games.
The scientific research supports some positive effects from video games, even from First Person Shooter games — including reaction time and the ability to quickly distinguish small changes in the environment.
People who don't play video games and who think that fps games are wrong and could make someone a serial killer is completely wrong.
In no way am I saying one way is best over another but it really affirmed for me at the time that my boys had garnered such experience for life experience that they might have missed if they'd only been playing video games.
And here's why: in most cases, if you tell boys they can spend their time doing whatever they want, and they can learn whatever is interesting to them, they will learn a lot about video games.
Kids who play video games do better as adults.
anyway i have been playing video games since i got my first nintendo 64 and thought you needed 3 hands to play it lol.
We have known about this research for a while from the military, but a study from Iowa State University shows that even surgeons perform better when they regularly play video games.
I would like to share something though regarding my sons who spend little time with video games but alot of time doing a variety of activities through Boy Scouts and church and serving and mission trips, etc.
Parents will spend a good deal of time desperately trying to justify their child spending hours plugged in – convincing themselves that they're kids aren't just addling their brains during a time of development but that they will in fact become the next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates or some other creative genius because they can push buttons really fast…we all know the truth – parent's want a quiet life and will manufacture all kinds of self-justifying tricks to appease themselves.
The funny thing is that I don't play video games.
I have not done extensive research on the pros and cons of video gaming, but it's important to know that these games are designed to be addictive like meth, cigarettes and gambling are designed to be addictive.

Everything is great about this mod definitely the realistic one out there so far but whats up with the frames i am getting they are quite low and the game has got very laggy for me on certain times of the day specially early morning and evening in the game itself otherwise this is the super mod and i am using clean install just because of this MOD is there anything we can do about the frame drop? I guess its probably the forced AA properties i guess would be great if the AA gets turned off and so we can see the results then but i still rate this mod SUPER 10/10 because of the realistic looks of it.
For those with game crashes after loading saves: Apparently, my problem was (OF ALL THINGS!) my in-game graphics settings (i.e. "SETTINGS.CFG" in "AppData/Local/…"), likely the shadows settings but I can’t be bothered to confirm.
In other related stuff: Anyone have a fix for the red sky and the brightness fix? For H1Vltg3, I am currently using your modified ENB and it seems to be looking awesome so far, however do you think you can make the Subtle FOV version without motion blur? I hate motion blur and I have no idea how I can disable it (maybe if you tell me just disable from the option, I can try) without losing the DoF.

Of course this is BASIC so no big suprises, but does have great programming and some graphics and is NOT a text-based game! Fun to play, and hopefully I will figure out a multi-player version.

The fifth installment of the epic Sega saga, Phantasy Star… Done in first person perspective, this game has 14 different enemies, infinite upgradable weapons, 7 different Techniques (magic spells), 7 or 8 towns, save and load game feature, three terrain types and 5 party members… This is truly a worthy sequal.
Another hacking game, similar to HACKERS, but with many more features, including a total of 33 "servers" to "hack." This version adds an Easter egg…good luck finding it 🙂 UPDATE: Why didn’t I fix the annoying bug that made the Easter egg pointless? Because I didn’t know it existed.
This RPG is awesome with its own introduction story! It is completely graphical with its own custom menus! This game uses ZFLASH which allows it to defy the limits of memory on the calculator, so i was able to have more detailed programming than any other basic game out there.
This is a basic game that allows you to fight 3 different enemies that vary in their health levels along with their damage.

With the help of Omnicalc and other ASM libraries, this game will change TI-BASIC language forever.
**This version will demonstrate the new fighting engine I am designing** I also changed the intro for the game, and it looks great.
So, try out TI-Earth Lite, the Lite version of the game based on Earth 2025 by Swirve.
With about 5-10 minutes of game time, I’d rather you just look at the source code and study how i do it if your learning how to program in basic.
The new things include 20 items I’ve put into the game, you can see the inside of your house, you can buy things at the shop, it has the date, the town members say more, and my all time favorite-you can walk around! Certain acres run slower than the others, but that’s the only problem.
