games like wow

If you find the dull graphics and boring fantasy storylines of other MMORPGs leave a lot to be desired then you’re the intended audience for Age of Conan, one of the paid like World of Warcraft that is now completely free to play.
It might be the final game on my list of free games like WoW but it’s definitely a game that science fiction (in particular Star Wars) fans won’t want to miss.
Having played the game for those first few months it was a very fresh experience with a space based setting that only a small handful of other games in this genre have used before.
The games graphics are simply as good as it gets and while that does mean you’ll be spending a lot of your monthly data to download the game it’s well worth it (it was 25GB last time I checked).
It was one of the first free games in this genre that I consdiered to be done well and it’s survival over the time period supports that as countless free to play MMOs have been shutdown due to lack of funds.

Since it is free to play and requires very little of your system, Allods Online is a great game for any fan of WoW style gameplay to check out.
Allods Online surprised me out of the box by offering my account creation to just come from Facebook, as though I were playing a smaller, web-based game.
Much in the way that every game with a first person view of a huge gun is not a Doom clone, there are plenty of MMORPGs that deliver a great gaming experience without being a copy of the Blizzard behemoth.
The game itself has seen a number of attempts to keep users playing the game, including the move to Free to Play (with some restrictions).
The game features a completely unique set of plot points for each class type, though by staggering them through the same basic areas there’s still plenty of interaction between the classes throughout the game.
By the time you have joined the rest of the world you find yourself with a few levels worth of experience and the required skills to play the game.
A good part of the game feels like it could be played solo, but once you leave the starting area for your character you can team up with whoever is willing.
If you’ve got some time to kill and want to jump into something a little different, Talisman Online is free to play and requires very little in terms of hardware.

The game is without a doubt a standout in the free MMORPG genre and is available at a reasonable download size (a couple of gigabytes) considering the amount of content on offer.
Other notable features of Allods Online include unique and varied monster designs, a large number of classes, an amazing immersive world, a solid interface and plenty of quests for players to explore.
The graphic quality of skill animations in EverQuest II is one of the highest when it comes to the free-to-play MMORPG genre and combined with the varied lands to explore within the game EverQuest II offers a visually appealing experience.
Within a few days of its launch the game already had over 1 million subscribers making it the world’s fastest growing MMO, although many players did not stick the game is a great change of setting from the usual fantasy MMOS.

Guild Wars 2 is the latest addition to the MMORPG genre and has already received strong reviews from critics, holding a score of 90 on Metacritic which is one of the highest for a game in the genre, a real testament to its quality.
EverQuest II features a massive game world where you can make friends and head off on countless adventures and quests together.
Considering the game can be played for free in your browser this large game world is well above what I ever expected.
Most of the games here offer a free World of Warcraft experience since I always believed that subscription based MMOs rarely offered gameplay quality that was above the free alternatives (at least not enough for the price).
One notable feature is the unique game world which is made up of several large shared spaces (limited territory ownership) with safe houses for each faction (superhero or villain) scattered across the world.
Combined with the 5 unique races on offer and the fast paced combat systems the game is one of the great free MMORPGs around that will entertain you for months to come.
Great lens, but in all fairness Everquest II is the sequel to a game that came out way before World of Warcraft.

Forsaken World is another fantasy MMORPG and is free to play but does have a hefty file size due to its high quality graphics (3GB+).
Compared to huge MMORPG experiences like World of Warcraft RuneScape is definitely something of a more casual experience that won’t drain away large amounts of your time compared to some of the other experiences on this page.
The game aims to standout from the crowd with a high focus on interaction and features all the standard bells and whistles that you would come to expect from an MMORPG.
With 10million+ strong community and the rebirth system encouraging you to keep playing Conquer Online has become a must play MMO for many gamers looking to commit themselves to a game for the longer term and make lasting friendships.

The game offers players two different factions, the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire although players are able to choose their own level of morality along a light/dark spectrum regardless of their faction alliance.

The game is free to download and play, as it makes use of a micro-transaction shop feature.

In Free Realms, users can have pets, work at jobs, race around, play games, explore the world, and (of course) customize and deck out their avatars, which are common in World of Warcraft.
The gameplay system, including Guild, Auction, PvP, Instance, Arean, Achievements and so on, which are all similar to World of Warcraft.

Allods Online is a stand out in the free MMORPG genre and is the perfect alternative for World of Warcraft fans looking to cut back on expenses but still play a great MMO on a regular basis.
The game was released in 2011 as a subscription based experience but went free to play in June 2013.
Since going free to play the game has grown in popularity thanks to its huge number of class options compared to other MMORPG options.
Gameplay in World of Warcraft is very typical of the MMORPG genre with players creating a character to interact with the inhabitants of the game world (both NPCs and other players).

Guild Wars 2 offers a very different angle to the fantasy world of MMO’s and may appeal to those who are looking for a ‘no-sub’ MMORPG like World of Warcraft.
There are many other MMO’s available for you to play, some with the same fantasy theme, others with sci-fi, and even some MMORPG’s that are completely free to play with no subscription at all.
EVE Online is a subscription based Sandbox MMO but it also allows the user to purchase game time with in-game currency that you obtain from completing missions and various other activities.
Lord of the Rings Online follows the typical MMORPG concept with quested orientated gameplay. Noticeable features include mounted combat, offering a fast adrenalin filled battling system.
Requiring an initial one time purchase with the option of monthly subscription, It is a puzzle based MMORPG set in the present-time world.
The player is not restricted to one class or skill set, rather they have the ability to pick and play from the traditional set of MMORPG roles as they progress through the game.
There are many aspects of Secret World that set it apart from other MMORPG’s, particularly the skill system.
Of course all of this is great fun, but in Entropia Universe you can not only kill the foul beast for experience but also gain loot worth real money! A very radical idea which allows the in-game currency (PED) to be redeemed to your real world bank account at a fixed rate.
With enticing instanced battles, exciting encounters against huge creatures (nearly every creature is as big as you, creating an impressive atmosphere in combat), and a beautiful world which is enjoyable to play in, Tera is a must to try out.
Entropia Universe may seem like any other game in the same genre: you are able to do missions, there’s an expansive skill system, you kill foul beasts for experience and loot.
It also adopts a unique feature whereby space-time tears hole within itself creating huge rifts that allow all manner of powerful creatures into the game world.
Some players casually play for enjoyment and others play for business, with investors paying $330,000 for a virtual space station (which was entered in the Guinness World Records for the most expensive virtual item).
Overall Lord of the Rings Online offers a story-orientated experience that makes the game more immersive and enjoyable to play.
Guild Wars 2 boasts to be very unique in the MMORPG genre, highlighted by a storyline that is responsive to player actions, something which is very common in single player games (for example Skyrim) but very rarely implemented in MMORPG’s.
Lord of the Rings Online first released in 2007 by Turbine, with a monthly subscription however it is now Free to Play.
While Secret World doesn’t follow traditional MMORPG architecture it does offer a breath of fresh air in this saturated genre.
A top 12 list of MMORPG games similar to World of Warcraft.
Perfect World is a popular MMORPG set in a fantasy world that is inspired by traditional Chinese lore.
This is an extremely radical MMORPG and would appeal to those that are particularly exhausted by the typical MMORPG formula that World of Warcraft uses.
It initially released at the beginning of 2011 with monthly subscription but eventually moved to Free to Play with premium features supported by the use of ‘Station Cash’ (a prepaid card).
If you are getting weary of the experience that fantasy MMORPG have to offer, DC Universe online is a perfect next step.
The fascinating thing is, EVE online runs continuously in one persistent world – no servers to pick from – everything you do has a consequence and those consequences ripple out to the edges of the entire game.

Rng aside, regardless of any changes from retail or not (if there are any besides gear), AT wow is actually a good game imo, and a lot of the top players (marm, mehh, jpeg/imbad) have said it's a good game as well.

If you aren't having fun on retail, your best bet is probably arena tournament or just look for a different kind of game altogether.

I'm sure most of us would salivate over the idea of a Wow arena game, without all the mmo and pve balance stuff with it.

As I immerse myself more in work life (within the game industry) actually playing games gets pushed aside (sad but true), leaving me to wonder if perhaps there isn’t something to this mobile gaming phenomenon – even for the ex-gamer.
While there appear to be rather satisfying options for the RPG gamer on mobile devices, the complexity and scale of MMO’s unfortunately make games like WoW nontransferable to iPods and iPhones, but at least there are a few options to explore on the MMO mobile gaming front.
As a console-based gamer as opposed to a mobile gamer, I found myself wondering, “Is there space for gamers within the mobile gaming arena?” Sounds rather counterintuitive and quite frankly an affront to hardcore gamers, I know.
I made the trek up to Seattle this week for the game conference Casual Connect, during which the mobile gaming space is being emphasized just as strongly as it was at Mobile Gaming USA in San Francisco.
Even companies like Square Enix have branched out into the mobile gaming space with games of many genres.
I came across a list of the “Top 10 Best MMOs on iPad, Android and iPhone” from October (rather outdated by mobile gaming standards, but it provides an interesting collection).
The article cites Star Legends, Celtic Heroes, Empire Online, Kingdom Conquest, Pocket Legends, The Infinite Black, Seven Swords, The World of Magic, Parallel Kingdom, and Order & Chaos Online.
Fortunately, the Final Fantasy mobile games seem to be a fantastic option for those looking to take their Final Fantasy addictions on the go.

If you aren’t against wine, or playing the game on Windows, then in my opinion Lord of the Rings Online is an amazing mmo – and there is a free-to-play option.

Regnum has come a long way in the last few years, it’s lacking in features and content atm as the dev’s have been working hard on the game engine to improve performance, stability, graphics and balance.
Regnum, I think, has better graphic abilities (OpenGL 4), and is more like your standard character type selection and skill/subskill sets, but Ryzom has a lot more to do and you can build your character in whichever direction you want, plus a pretty decent foraging/resource gathering and crafting system (which I’m more into than a bunch of fighting).

Games like World of Warcraft are designed to provide the user with a realistic gaming experience and one that will suck them into a different world while offering mind blowing graphics and an excellent storyline.
A fantasy game just like WOW, Perfect World allows the player to truly customize their gaming experience based on skill variety, quest lines and classes.
Avid gamers and fans of WOW are always looking for the next big game or a game that can offer a real challenge, and there are some top games like World of Warcraft that can get you as equally hooked.
When compared to WOW, it can be hard to find games like World of Warcraft that can offer the same type of realistic experience.
The character development is fairly standard for games like World of Warcraft and the style progression will combine bosses, missions and exploration.

Not limiting their activities to the earthly realm, American and British spies have infiltrated the fantasy worlds of World of Warcraft and Second Life, conducting surveillance and scooping up data in the online games played by millions of people across the globe, according to newly disclosed classified documents.

I agree with the first two in the list, but three games you left out that are much closer to the diablo franchise than the last three are Dungeon Hunter 4, Dark Avenger, Eternity Warriors 3.

Between level grinding, learning virtual professions, exploring new territory, learning how your particular skill set works, and selling and trading with other players, World of Warcraft (and many other MMOs) can quite unexpectedly teach us things about real life.

The New York Times’ and Pro Publica’s Mark Mazzetti and Justin Elliott have written a story detailing how the National Security Agency and its British counterpart, Government Communication Headquarters, have infiltrated the online games World of Warcraft and Second Life.
Known as massively multiplayer online role-playing games, World of Warcraft and Second Life create virtual worlds for players.

The HD 4000 actually does provide pretty decent performance given the fact that as recent as 2010 Intel more or less did not even bother with graphic cores capable of playing games.

Gazillion Chief Executive Dave Brevik said the company had $11 million in 2013 revenue and he expects $25 million this year based on the number of daily active users and the number of users making the free to paying jump.
“Free to Play” games rely on a core group of dedicated users who will pay a premium prices for special short-cuts, cheat codes, weaponry or customizable clothing for their online avatars.
Gaming companies like Gazillion, Inc., are hitting the reset of online gaming models and tapping into consumers who want games that are easy to access from a variety of devices, and free to enjoy at the entry level.
But it’s hold isn’t what it once was, the company peaked in 2010 with about 10 million subscribers, and has since lost players to games that are technically complex, visually interesting, fully immersive and totally free to play.
