get rich slowly how to buy a mattress

Theoretically you need less money when you give up work than you do while working: you no longer need to pay for transport to and from work, nor for work clothes, expensive coffee, lunches and after-work drinks etc (see above) and your tax bill may also drop (higher personal tax allowance and possibly a marginal lower tax rate) but you also have more free time and more time to spend your money.
People dream of becoming rich by winning the lottery, getting a fantastically well paid job, having an amazing business idea, marrying someone famous etc.
e.g. For someone earning £50,000 a year working 45 hours, commuting for 10 hours with another 10 getting ready and recovering from work, each week the real net income per hour may be just £10 and rather less when you include travel costs etc.

Personal budgeting is important because it helps you organize what to spend your money on and the amount you can buy, so you're financially stable.
Go to Sleepy’s or whatever mattress store you like, find a bed you like, then sit and wait out the grueling back-and-forth negotiation that has to take place and if the price doesn’t come down by 50% off the tag then go to the next closes Sleepy’s (or whatever) and tell them you want X bed for X dollars.
Since we were moving from a futon to a real bed in our first apartment, the frame and delivery were musts, and even with some additional shopping around during those 30-days, (looking for other furniture), our deal on the actual mattress price didn’t suffer for the free stuff.
They’re also going to try selling you a “mattress protector” or “mattress pad.” If it is a cushioned pad, then don’t bother; you are getting a new bed so why in the world would you need a pad for it, right? But, if it is a waterproof style that comes with a stain warranty for the bed, then it is worth thinking about.

We bought our mattress, a sealy I think, from a local independent Mattress store because we liked how it felt and the price was very reasonable.
If you are looking at an innerspring mattress, ask whether the bed has any kind of “edge support.” The edge where you get out of bed is the first place that will break down, so the mattress should either have some type of heavier steel gauge for the coils or some sort of heavier foam around the edge.
“This article reads like it is – a sales pitch from a guy whose family has been in the mattress business for X years.
Learned several years ago while shopping for a mattress that different stores will have the exact same mattress as another store, but with a different name on it (same brand).
If you’re dying for a Temperpedic mattress, but don’t want to shell out an insane amount of money, you can get comparable memory foam matresses at Costco or for much less.
The mattress I’m currently sleeping on I’m disappointed by, having not known anything about mattresses when I made the purchase.
One thing you will not find at your local mattress store is a wide selection of Air Mattresses.
A salesperson actually told me to buy a cheaper/less comfortable mattress because “children don’t really need the extra comfort”.
Mattress manufactures contractually set minimum prices that they allow retailers to sell their mattresses at, so they either have to price them at that minimum or overprice them and negotiate.
That’s $400 per year! (the mattress I own now cost that much) Who can afford that, for one thing? And for another, I have heard way too many people like Beth and Mark above say that mattresses are grossly overpriced and there are ways to get them for less.
We found stores would price match if we found the same brand mattress with the same coil count (indicating the same exact mattress).
We just bought a new Stearns & Foster king size bed from Sealy’s Mattress and More stores.
Heck, after reading all the mattress articles I’m not even sure what the words “firm” and “soft” mean anymore.
This article reads like it is – a sales pitch from a guy whose family has been in the mattress business for X years.
I remember it saying how it is hard to compare prices because one company gives the same mattress different names depending on what store it will be sold in.
My wife and I just bought a mattress (Seriously JD, why is it that we’re always doing the same thing at the same time…) We found Sleepy’s too salesy.
“Mattress salespeople are pretty good at finding the best fit for customers” – I had to chuckle at this item.
We paid about $1200 for the lower-end queen size mattress and “foundation” (basically the box spring that supports the mattress).
I’ve never paid more than half price for a mattress.
The salesperson there adviced me to buy the waterproof mattress protector, in case there were any “accidents”, and that was good advice.
I eventually bought a very nice pillow top mattress at another store.
Not sure if this will be helpful, but some other bloggers just bought a new mattress that they heavily researched and decided to go with an environmentally friendly version.
If you are looking for an Air Mattress – check out to see all of the available options and reviews of the top mattresses.
We knew some of these when we bought the mattress I have now and I think we made a good buy.
I do not notice any difference in the feel of the mattress and 2 years later it’s still looks and feels like it’s brand new.
If a store is willing to negotiate mattress prices, then they are overpriced, so make sure you get them down a considerable amount.
You might not want to sleep on an Air Mattress every night, but they sure are useful for when you have guests in town.

The advanced SocialOomph membership is worth considering if you need to get rich fast as this will allow you to automate a lot more than your RSS feeds and will also allow you to manage multiple twitter accounts on different campaigns but if money is tight and getting rich without investing a lot of funds is a priority then the free service will suffice.

There are many ways to get rich slowly whether working in a high paying career, by investments, stock or option trading, investing or starting a business, investing in I.P.O’s (Initial Public Offerings) or Network Marketing (MLM).
If you do this you really can’t fail – but like any real business in the offline world it takes time to establish yourself and in the early days you will work very hard for a small return, but if you follow a proven formula and persevere, you will soon be rewarded with an income which is far greater than the amount of work involved and an income which will continue to grow exponentially as the workload decreases! That is the time to use your knowledge and experience to duplicate your online success with another internet business, until you eventually create multiple online income streams.
Twitter is a great tool for marketing but possibly the most misunderstood social networking site online right now and with so many people using it and then leaving it behind as fast as they arrive, it makes no surprise to me when I hear people scream and shout "How do I get rich fast on twitter" with so much competition.
This may seem like an obvious first step but the majority of people will not take the time to find the right product to sell on Twitter and will come into the social network intent on selling anything and everything, hopping and skipping from one great affiliate product to the next, without any clear strategy or idea of their target market.
While you can make large amounts of cash as a real estate investor, it does take an investment of time to learn the business and your market and having some cash to spend on marketing or holding cause sure helps.

Investing over the long run a range of funds at different interest rates can earn you an incredible amount of money due to the ‘magic of compounding interest.’ But you will have to learn a few things first – and this takes time to do.
Have a mattress shopping tip of your own? Scoff at this "coil count" business because you rock it out on a foam mattress? Let’s hear about it in the comments.
They have advice directly from a guy who has been part of his family’s mattress business his whole life.
Always ask if the innerspring mattress you’re looking at has edge support to keep the edges firm and keep it comfy for you getting in and out of bed.
One thing about price comparison or testing a mattress at one store and then buying at a warehouse club is that mattress stores do not use the same name for the same mattresses in order to prevent you from price shopping.
It’s very unlikely that you will be able to find the exact model of a mattress you test drive in a store at Costco because there is a ton of white-labeling and different models (even within the same brand) depending on the distributor.
“No-flip” mattresses are touted as being convenient and easy for the consumer, but in reality they are huge money savers for mattress giants – basically, half the manufacturing cost and mattress life at the same sale price.
The funniest information I found online about buying a mattress was walk into your local mattress store, ask the salesman what is on sale and then yell in unison with him, “EVERYTHING’S ON SALE”.
I had very good luck finding a queen size mattress at Sam’s Club maybe 4 years ago, and paid maybe $400 (mattress & boxspring) for what I believe is comparable to a $750-$1,000 furniture/mattress store.
Many of what we saw were “last year” models and they took a larger percentage off the price of the mattress the longer it had been in the store.
Make sure to negotiate delivery and disposal of your old mattress with the price and don’t be afraid to walk out on a good deal if you’re not 100% sold.
I ended up buying a memory foam topped mattress with a cooling layer (important for foam) from Costco for about half what most mattress stores were offering.
When my husband and I bought a new bed a couple of years ago we went to an outlet store for a name brand mattress manufacturer.
Wow, I’m fascinated! When I moved to Portland I went to PJ’s Sleep Shop on Hawthorne and bought myself a mattress and boxspring for $250, which included frame and delivery.
For my part, I bought a pillowtop mattress and boxsprings set from Costco about ten years ago, and it’s holding up extraordinarily well.
I ended up with a queen size memory-foam pillowtop with foam encasement with boxspring for just a bit under $1000 out the door – on a mattress with a tag price of $2000.
They are in any common mattress, you have to go out of your way to find natural materials like wool, latex, memory foam, etc, that won’t have it.
We bought a memory foam mattress on Overstock and we absolutely it.
I’m glad I did because I didn’t like it much! So, try “sleeping around” and see if you can find the perfect mattress that way.
As far as the beds being no flip, that’s because a lot of them have pillowtops that are 10″ thick and it would not make sense to have a mattress that is even thicker with that on both sides (you’ll need to buy deep pocket sheets for most mattresses on the market today as it is).
A side benefit is that we were able to replace the mattress on an electric hospital bed at the same time for a very reasonable price, and shipping cost didn’t change.
We shopped at a few “normal” mattress stores and it felt a lot like buying a used car from the shadiest people in town.
I bought the mid-range latex mattress from Ikea (queen size, $699) and I LOVE it.
10 years is a pretty standard warranty but be sure to get a protector (I bought mine from, not the mattress store) to ensure it doesn’t get stained as this does indeed void the warranty.
We got our memory foam mattress online and love it.
In my experience, it’s virtually impossible to find the exact mattress at two different stores.
It’s been years since I slept well at home, but sleeping on this mattress was no problem.
We bought our last mattress from Ikea — a midrange inner-spring, and I find it quite comfortable.
When I went looking for a king size mattress after getting married, I found that the discounts at Sam’s were far greater for the queen than it was for the kind, enough that I wasn’t willing to take the risk of the lack of a better chance of trying it out.
She recommends a 100% natural latex mattress for its long life – 20+ years, renewability and sustainability, and biodegradability.
Most of this would seem like pretty common sense stuff, but as others have noted, unless you have money to spend on sales for things you might possibly need sometime in the future (that sweater looks great in March when it’s $7, but will it just get pushed to the back of the closet and forgotten about?), a lot of this stuff could lead to wasting money unless you know your tastes well and you’re extremely comfortable thinking far ahead not to mention have a lot of storage space…which a lot of people aren’t and don’t.
I initially started thinking like Tyler #28 with respect to the idea that this list could encourage people to buy things they don’t need and store them, but then I realized that many of the things listed are durables that have to be replaced from time to time, but not right away, unlike the drill example (like a mattress).
Regarding getting a good price on a home: off season might not give you a great deal on average, but the fact of the matter is people who are looking at moving list their houses during fall/winter typically because they HAVE to sell.
If I am relocating to a location I am familiar with and I have to start work the first day of the new year I am going to buy a house rather than move into a rental for four months (which landlords frown on) live out of boxes and then move on, or move in for 16-18 months and deal with re-packing and unpacking things I’ll gurantee were sitting in storage for over a year (I don’t know anyone outside the military who can unpack that well).
Mattresses are essential in securing a good night’s sleep, yet choosing the wrong mattress brings only discomfort and possible bodily aches.
It’s recommended that buyers should purchase their beds from a replete mattress outlet in Los Angeles such as Glendale Mattress Central.
Comfort is the entire point of a mattress, and buyers should make doubly sure that the mattress they’re about to purchase from a store suits them perfectly.
Although testing mattresses might be embarrassing for some people, it’s an integral part of the choosing process; buyers should try lying down on the mattresses of their choice for as long as possible to determine how comfortable the beds are for long periods of time.
Glendale Mattress Central is an individual, family owned and operated sleep store.
A complete Los Angeles mattress store should have enough mattress selections for buyers to choose from.
On the Get Rich Slowly website, there’s an article that provides a list of hints and tips on how buyers can purchase a mattress the right way.
Different people will have different preferences when it comes to how soft they want their mattresses, so buyers shouldn’t be afraid to keep looking for a bed that truly suits their tastes.
A mattress could have a laundry list of impressive features, yet comfort should always be the main focus of every buyer seeking a good bed.
7) We are trying to arrange for a charity to come through at the end of the sale to pick up what you don’t sell so be prepared for them.
It makes a great day of bonding and they learn some social interaction and how to count change (a lost art) and negotiate.
4) Price to sell and leave a little wiggle room or bundle things together if they want more than one thing.
3) Don’t think you have enough to sell, then join forces with a neighbor to manage a sales space.
Now on the outside chance that you never had or participated in a garage sale Fred had some great advice and guidance.
Let’s face it you’re going to eventually help them through college anyway so they should know how to negotiate and earn money.
Saving money at the grocery store takes some extra work, but being a methodical shopper and putting some tried-and-true techniques to use can leave extra money in your pocket.
All of this drives me nuts! The kitchen is the only room downstairs that gets any regular use! We have all of this extra, wasted space in the house and yet Sean and I feel like we're falling over each other every time we move.
At first it was really hard letting go of the furniture, "treasures", and decor that I had accumulated over the years, but over time I did and it was really a relief not to be surrounded by so much stuff! My two teenaged daughters, 2 dogs and I love it! Like you, I would never contemplate moving to a large house again.
After our eldest moved out (the two eldest did share a room for a few years) and we moved to a smaller house, the two younger ones shared our attic space, one large room.
We care more about the backyard space for the dog and the garden than we do about having an office room, a craft room, and a man cave, and a living room all in separate rooms of the house.
Bea, this is probably one of my most favorite posts ever!! I love a small house and though I'm still in the process of using and having less(it's a process!) a small house just invites simple living.
Health: For two reasons…1) A smaller space is easier to clean, which means that dust does not linger in hard to reach places; and, 2) A small house encourages outdoor activity – in the summer, my deck becomes my office.
You do such an eloquent job of making zero waste so appealing! I live with my two boys and husband in an 1700 square foot home, dwarfed by many of the gigantic pretty Victorians homes nearby, but dreaming of smaller! While downsizing is unlikely, I realized reading this post that one of my stumbling blocks of getting rid of even more stuff is that we have loads of "convenient" storage.
Since moving all of my stuff out of my parent's house and into my university room, I'm really starting to appreciate needing less stuff to fill a bunch of unnecessary space.
I also have a tendency towards claustrophobia, and my 1200 sq.ft. house sometimes gave me that feeling, especially the teeny bathroom, and the fact that I had to turn and walk sideways to get from my bed to my closet! I am also in agreement that a laundry room is important- I now have a laundry closet, whereas my smaller house actually had a small room.
I am wondering how small is small? Our family of three lives in a 650 square foot house (not counting detached single garage) and a 50 square foot yard.
When I was little we lived in 300 square ft square and then moved to 800 square feet which felt like a palace to me and my brother! In Bosnia for most people rooms are multi-purpose – during the day it’s a playroom or a living room / dining room and then it becomes a bedroom at night.
When I asked the kids, what their thoughts were on living in a small house… Max replied: "You can’t play hide-and-seek." That’s one drawback that doesn’t seem to bother him though, because he is already talking about building his own tiny house someday.
My husband thinks I'm crazy…but I agree with the smaller the house, the less stuff you need, and the less time it takes for picking up and cleaning.
I've been progressively downsizing over the last 5 years and have moved from a house of 5000 sq feet into our tiny beach cottage of 750 sq feet.
We recently (somewhat involuntarily) downsized from a 1300 square foot house with a basement, yard, and shed to a 900 square foot condo with no large storage space or yard.
When I eventually buy somewhere I'd love to have a smaller house and more garden so I can grow my own vegetables and have space to enjoy in the summer.
Ratna, you make an interesting point: I, too, like the idea of children using their bedrooms for sleeping and not a play space; because of this, our two kids never considered the shared 10x!0 ft room too small.
I'm another one who lives in a small house and LOVES it! I just had a baby over Christmas and it's staggering how many people ask when/where we will be moving.
We also find that our small house allows for more time outside, with our dog, in our garden, working on our rain collection (we live in Seattle after all!).
I've never figured out why people want to work so hard just so they can own huge houses, which they never get to spend any time in, because they're so busy working their rear ends off just to pay for the house! It makes no sense to me.
I agree! I live in 800 square feet with my husband and two kids (no basement, no garage)–but a huge backyard!–and it's helped me control how much "stuff" we own better than anything else.
Maybe it was the fact that we'd got used to living in two rooms with minimal stuff for so long (when we eventually moved to an apartment with a third room, we never used it!) or maybe its the outlandish price of real estate here, but we're living in a tiny two up, two down cottage and we love it.
Although technically I can afford to continue living here, I keep asking myself "why"? Huge areas of the home are seldom used and it's a trek to get from the kitchen up to my daughter's room, if she calls for me while I'm doing the dishes.
The basics of breastfeeding are the same for babies with reflux as for other babies, but when you have a baby with a problem, you may need to pay closer attention to how the baby is nursing at the breast.
For a baby with reflux who has problems with choking during feedings, the mother might modify this position by leaning back slightly, supported by pillows, so that her breast is angled up and the baby’s neck and throat are a little higher than the nipple.
Breastfed babies nurse frequently, and the mother’s body responds to her baby’s nursing by making more milk.
When weight gain needs to be checked often, there are scales available for rent that not only show a baby’s weight gain but also determine the amount of breast milk he is getting at each feeding.
(Of course, cutting nursing time could also cause problems for the baby from not getting enough milk.) Avoid nipple shields; they can contribute to a nursing problem and lead to decreased milk supply.
If the baby seems to lose interest or is easily distracted, you may need to switch sides repeatedly during each feeding to make sure that he does get a good amount of milk from at least one breast during each feeding.
If your doctor has recommended that your baby sleep in an inclined position, you may want to explore your options. Many breastfeeding mothers enjoy having their baby sleep with them and nurse during the night.
A baby with reflux may have fewer problems with keeping the milk down if he is held somewhat upright during feedings, well supported on mother’s arm or with firm pillows.
Babies with reflux tend to wake more often, so take advantage of this opportunity to nurse your baby.
How you position a baby with GER at the breast may also help the milk stay in his stomach.
You can give the extra milk by cup, syringe, spoon, or a nursing supplementer (a device that allows supplements to be given through a tube while the baby sucks at the breast or on a parent’s finger).
Breast milk serves as baby’s first immunization, providing protection from common illnesses as well as health problems in later life.
Besides, for a special-occasion splurge like this, you want to be able to say, "I spent that on this item." Unless that’s a single kick-ass suit, spending the money on a bunch of decent blouses and skirts will just mean your splurge will get lost in the shuffle after a few years.
If I were a guy I would probably buy a suit or nice dress shoes–is there a comparable item for a women’s wardrobe that’s really worth investing $500 in? A handbag maybe? I don’t really wear jewelry.
I don’t want to be a downer, but, since you mention your job search and hopeful eventual employment, maybe it would be good to just hang on to the money for a little while until you see how things are going to play out.
You say you want to spoil yourself (which indicates splurge to me), but then go on to indicate that maybe the money should be used in a somewhat more practical manner (buying things that could help in a job search).
From 1871 to 2013, the S&P 500 (a stock market index tracking the 500 largest companies in the US) has had an average annual return (including both appreciation and dividends) of 10.75%. But this number is slightly misleading.
I’m a big fan of index funds and investing in the stock market.
However, as we discussed in a previous post on investment risk, the risk of losing money in an account that lags the rate of inflation (or worse, hiding it in your mattress!) is actually a 100% risk over time.
For people interested in stock market investing, index funds/ETFs would be my first recommendation.
In actuality I had a DECREASE of 25%! That’s no joke! So the simple average (or “arithmetic mean”) of the S&P 500 over a long period of time isn’t accurate for our purposes, what we need to look at instead is the “annualized return” or “compound annual growth rate” or CAGR for short.
So this historical trend of the stock market is why I use 8% as my yardstick for measuring investment returns, even though I hasten to add that past results may not predict future performance.
I’ve been very interested in investing in rental real estate but properties are way to expensive here in NYC…I’d have to buy somewhere else and hire a property manager.
A lot of ink has been spilt on the topic of stock market investing and mutual funds.
It’s hard to buy a rental property with only $100, so you may need to invest using some other means first and move into real estate once you’ve built up a big enough crumb stash.
There are actively managed mutual funds where a fund manager is responsible for creating the investment portfolio and there are index funds which passively track a pre-determined index by matching its portfolio to the make-up of said index.
However, as with all stock market investments, you should get in only if you plan to hold for a long time horizon, preferably 5 years or longer.
“They got money from me that was supposed to go to one of his apartment buildings, but I found out they spent it on their house,” says Joe’s former partner Joe Mastropole, who is embroiled in a separate lawsuit with Joe Giudice; bankruptcy documents show the Giudices owe him $586,000.
The problem with class action suit is everyone says the last company – that is no longer in business, but didn’t file bankruptcy–is the company they turned the funds over to, so who to sue? Now, the bankruptcy court should start at the beginning and follow the money trail, through each of the companies, and at least make them prove they turned over funds.
In the next episode of season 2 (episode 13, which would have been taped shortly before the Giudices filed for bankruptcy), Teresa was shown on a mad mission to find Chanel during the cast trip to Italy, while Joe was portrayed as being concerned about their finances.
I think what MAY happen is that Bravo will film the Giudices going to court this Fall and will show TSIL and TB becoming staunch supporters and “having Teresa’s back” in all of this.
Did Jax call Teresa a sociopath because she thinks Teresa has a cult like following aka army? Jax was a close friend for 10 years and she does not understand why so many people are drawn to Teresa? I think all of the comments about Teresa’s army supports the idea that other castmates do not have as many fans as Teresa.
Saracino, which they contested – several other clients were “wrongfully included in the plaintiff’s OSC application.” Saracino’s original mortgage loan for their 3,157 SF home on 50 Artillery Park Road, Totowa, NJ, was made on September 10, 2007 for $250,000 (the property is currently assessed at $622,400) – they missed a mortgage payment on March 1, 2010.
She was overwhelmed with someone as stupid as Teresa ( yes Jaq does believe she is more intelligent then Teresa) could be in bankruptcy, and making money hand over fist and have a smile on her face doing it.
RHONJ season 2 was taping when the creditors of the Laurita’s company, Signature Apparel, pushed the company into bankruptcy protection in September 2009 (the company had only been in operation since 2005) and when the Giudices filed for bankruptcy on October 29, 2009.
As far as Teresa knowing I don’t think she really focus on any business or money related issues until they filed for bankruptcy.
The too-big-to-fail banks, investment bankers (Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, etc.), and the Federal Reserve engineered the housing boom [Rolling Stone Issue 1082-83, Matt Taibbi takes on "The Wall Street Bubble Mafia," July 2, 2009 – video here], and the homebuyers and taxpayers are the only ones paying the price (the financial industry, with the help of Congress, fleeced the taxpayers for $700 billion – Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 – after the real estate bubble burst).
Combining Joe’s salary as owner of G&G Stucco and Stone Specialist in Clifton, N.J., with Teresa’s income from Bravo and “monthly assistance from family members,” that number totaled $16,583.33. Their expenditures, including their mortgage, food, clothing, dry cleaning, health insurance and other expenses, total $16,582.
When they filed for bankruptcy last fall, Teresa and Joe surrendered two properties, two cars and other personal property in order to pay back creditors as required, but their main residence remains safe for now.
On the day Teresa and Joe appeared in court to be arraigned before a Federal court, TSIL took Milania and Gabriella to see the Broadway play “Annie” to celebrate Antonia’s birthday which was over the weekend.
It’s been 2 years that I wanted the world to see the real Teresa and I hoped everyone could see that her familymembers did her wrong.
Remember, Teresa told her brother Joe that the reason he finished his mansion first was because the Gorgas had a construction loan – apparently the Giudices were slowly renovating their mansion over the years, but once they were cast on RHONJ, they got loans to finish it sooner.
I also believe if they have been paid or are being paid, I don’t think the banks care even if the applications contained false information including earnings–as this has been encouraged during the mortgage boom, and it had loan officers that could challenge and deny the loan application.
I am wondering if this is some kind of distancing from Teresa, who made the show popular?? Bravo has instigated too much of the misery for Teresa and her family, so I am waiting to see how they handle the whole situation with her, Since Bravo only cares for ratings and numbers, this is how I can make my statement regarding my feelings about Bravo.
Deposits don’t go away in a bankruptcy since they weren’t company funds, but then you have the last company not file bankruptcy but basically dissolve, but your deposits were with them–now to me, this is truly criminal, not to mention that they have financially devastated hundreds or thousands of people, and we don’t and can’t get help or answers.
During the first season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Giudice, who famously flipped a table on the show, and her family moved into their $1.7 million mansion in Towaco, N.J. The reality star, who was often filmed treating her daughters to new clothing and expensive toys, was also depicted flashing stacks of cash while furnishing the house.
If Teresa Giudice needs someone to blame for her serious legal troubles, she might be able to look to her nemesis from “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” — and we’re not talking about that poor table she infamously flipped over back in the show’s first season.

HOTEL – MIAMI, FL – LATER 20 Dexter slowly pulls to a stop near the front entrance of the hotel — focuses on the VALET STAND where we see — JAMIE JAWORSKI (30’s), a short, stocky, pleasant enough looking man, whose large brown eyes might be a little too close together, wearing a traditional valet outfit.
PANNING FURTHER DOWN UNTIL The moonlight illuminates the restless, inner city streets of Miami and we start moving through them — passing the neon lit bars with enthusiastic DRINKERS, clueless GERMAN TOURISTS, wearing shorts, black socks and sandals, long legged MODELS flirting on the boulevard, blue collar CUBANO MEN sipping espresso, a few scantily clad HOOKERS hawking johns and a band of RUNAWAYS looking for handouts — DEXTER (CONT’D) Miami’s a great town — love the Cuban food, pork sandwiches — my favorite…but I’m hungry for something different now.
Doakes and Debra leaning against an unmarked police car nd Debra smiles wide, gives him a thumbs up and just then — LaGuerta’s car pulls up, headlights momentarily blinding Dexter.
Dexter rises, walks into the living room — modest and simple, right out of a cheap catalogue, then turns back to the kids and smiles — FREEZE ON ASTOR AND CODY DEXTER (CONT’D) I like kids — In fact, these kids are more important to me than their mom.
COP #2 (playfully) Hey, Dex, I got some spatter in my shorts, want a swab? Dexter smiles at him, looks for a seat, slides past a few ore COPS, then SEES — DEBRA Sitting alone in the back — cuts through the crowd — GRABS a seat next to her, squeezes her knee with encouragement.
DOAKES (CONT’D) (hard) The hotel coke-head murders? This dealer and the girl? Dexter scans them — eyes the blood spatter on the walls.
LaGuerta talking to an eager REPORTER but Dexter avoids eye contact, quickly maneuvers around some DETECTIVES and COPS, then SEES — Angel Batista (the M.E.) in the same position we saw him at the last crime scene — bent over, examining wrapped body parts (legs, toes, arms) all nicely stacked in a pyramid formation.
HARRY (CONT’D) How long have you been doing this, son? Dexter looks away then looks back into his father’s eyes.
HARRY Like a person? YOUNG DEXTER Yeah, but nobody in particular… HARRY Why didn’t you? Dexter and Harry lock eyes for a beat, then — —————————————————————————————————– 31.
DEXTER’S CAR – SAME 64A After a beat, he reaches into his shirt pocket, pulls out the glass side of Jaworski’s blood, looks at it.
When he sees the blood, Dexter clearly gets excited — But after a beat, he controls himself, then very carefully squeezes the rubber top of the eye dropper over a glass slide and a few tear drops of blood gently spatter onto the slide, then he presses a second piece of glass over it, seals the two slides together — —————————————————————————————————– 8.
PARKING LOT – 7 SEAS MOTEL – MIAMI, FL – SAME 13 And we see DEBRA (20’s — Dexter’s outstanding-looking foster sister) dressed as a classic cheap whore, her shapely body shrink wrapped tight in a pink neon tube-top, ripped, crack- whore jeans and high heels, sucking hard on a cigarette and talking urgently into her cell phone.
LIVING ROOM – DEXTER’S APARTMENT – LATER THAT NIGHT 46 And Dexter looks GRIM and ANGRY– sits at his desk, faces his computer — the large "Jaworski File" just inches from his fingers and right next to that, is the same porn magazine we saw in Jaworski’s apartment.
POLICE HEADQUARTERS – MIAMI, FL – LATER 23 Dexter, carrying a large box of donuts, walks past the SERGEANT sitting behind the command desk talking on the phone — —————————————————————————————————– 21.
Dexter watches them disappear down the hall, then we — FREEZE ON ALL THE DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN THE HALLWAY DEXTER (CONT’D) Salt of the earth these people and they try hard, but with the solve rate for murders at about twenty percent — Miami is a great place for me to play.
Dexter walks past a good looking COUPLE sitting at a table at an outdoor cafe, stops — does a double take… And sure enough the GUY is sipping a Mojito, while the pretty young GIRL, smoking a cigarette with one hand, slowly and casually massages the guy’s crotch with the other.
LARGE ROOM – BAYWATER PROJECTS – LATER 63 Dexter gently places a piece of Jaworski’s leg into a white Hefty garbage bags filled with other bits and pieces of Jaworksi’s body stacked in a pile across the room.
DOAKES (CONT’D) Hey! I’m… With Doakes right behind him, Dexter grabs the briefing room oor, pulls it open, and we SEE — Lt.
BACK TO SCENE Dexter slips the glass slide into his shirt pocket, smiles, then grabs a small surgical saw off the table — we HEAR the whirl of its motor running and as Dexter slowly brings the saw down toward Donovan’s crotch — We fade to — BLACK.
LaGuerta catches Dexter’s eye and in the midst of her rapid paced conversation with the Cuban Porter, smiles at Dexter, then her eyes quickly scan the crowd, the crime scene.
THE CISTERN – OUTSKIRTS OF MIAMI, FL – SAME 7 Dexter KICKS the door closed, quickly flips on a flood lamp, lights up the room, leans into Donovan’s ear, whispers… DEXTER Look.
LAB – POLICE HEADQUARTERS – MIAMI, FL – SAME 25 Dexter, light footed as ever, walks through the large, glass enclosed lab, passing the "Analytical," "Forensic" and "Serology (blood)" sections all packed with SCIENTISTS and ANALYSTS in white coats, hovering over microscopes, computers, and other high tech machines.
Dexter GRABS the back of Donovan’s neck, SPINS him around, SLAMS his face into a wall, then grabs his hair and pulls Donovan’s head back.
THE POOL – 7 SEAS MOTEL – MIAMI, FL – SAME 18 Dexter walks down and into the empty pool and SEES — VINCE MASUKA (30’s), slight, half Japanese, half white, sporting a shaved head, meticulously brushing the pool tiles for fingerprints.
He takes a couple of deep breaths, rises to his feet and… Standing alone in the middle of the empty road, Dexter lifts the head up, looks into her eyes.
The MAN behind him turns toward the camera, and we finally SEE — DEXTER’S FACE (30’s), good looking with carefully constructed features, eyes that are full of life.
RITA’S HOUSE – MIAMI, FL – SAME 34 The door closes, Dexter faces the blushing RITA (30’s), sweet and delicate but vulnerable and amazingly attractive even in her Post Office delivery uniform.
DEXTER (CONT’D) And Doakes storms out of the office, Dexter eyes all the Lab Technicians, Cops and Detectives.
JAWORSKI’S HOUSE – MIAMI, FL – DAY 30 And as soon as Dexter steps inside the side door, we HEAR the loud, vicious BARKS of a massive DOG and Dexter FREEZES.
the Sergeant quickly gets up, reaches into the donut box grabs one — Dexter smiles, heads down the glass enclosed office cubicles, passing UNIFORMED COPS — weaves in and out of a bunch of casually dressed POLICE DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATORS, then comes upon two veteran DETECTIVES.
Dexter walks past him, then SEES amongst all the other COPS hanging around — Debra still looking like a cheap whore, running up to him.
DEXTER Anything new? And she hands him a fat file, labeled "Jaworski." CAMILLIA (playful) One of these days, you’re going to tell me… DEXTER (leans in, whispers) I already did — blood spatter doesn’t take all my time and I like doing it — maybe I can help out.
Dexter rises — takes one last look at all the marvelous bloodless body parts laid out on the tarp, then without saying anything, turns, walks away from Masuka and Batista.
RITA (CONT’D) I’m sorry…I don’t think I want to — I mean, I’m not ready for — Damn it, Dexter.
As Harry smiles then pulls little Dexter into his arms, we HEAR — DEBRA (O.S.) Don’t bullshit me, Dex.
Dexter whips the fishing line back around Donovan’s neck and they both walk up to the front door and enter — —————————————————————————————————– 5.
BACK TO SCENE Dexter turns down another hallway, then HEARS — DEBRA (O.S.) Dex… He turns around, sees Deb smiling, dressed in plain clothes and running toward him.
Deb eyes him, leans in close, then says slowly — DEBRA What-the-fuck-are-you-talking-about? DEXTER (thinking –) A refrigerated truck.
LAGUERTA (CONT’D) So did you see the driver of the truck? DEXTER Nope.
DEXTER What are you going to do? DEBRA I’m going to get the hell out of this sex suit and get into the (MORE) —————————————————————————————————– 15.
Dexter pulls off one of the coils, reaches inside and retrieves a long rectangular wood box, sets it on his desk, lifts off the lid and from his shirt pocket, pulls out the slide of blood we saw him extract from Donovan.
Dexter peels the mask off his face, leans over Jaworski and stares into his eyes.
DEXTER (CONT’D) Jeeze Deb, where the hell do you keep your gun? DEBRA (catching her breath) Cut the crap — They found another hooker.
YOUNG DEXTER To talk about this? Harry blows into the embers, the fire ignites, then he sits down next to Dexter, turns and looks at his son.
DEXTER (CONT’D) How does he do it? How does the killer get rid of the blood? BATISTA Hard to say.
LaGuerta shakes her head, SLAMS her door shut and walks towards Dexter.
DOAKES (30’s), a large, imposing BLACK MAN, whose cold frosty eyes are framed by a face fixed with a permanent look of hostility — especially when he’s around Dexter.
THE TRUCK Slowly pulls around and — DEXTER Looks out of the passenger side window and sees — THE TRUCK Slowly pass him, and Dexter realizes that it’s a refrigerated truck — DEXTER (V.O.) No…Can’t be.
FREEZE ON THE BLOOD SLIDE DEXTER (CONT’D) Other times, it helps me control the chaos.
As he puts the folder down, he notices his answering machine is BLINKING — Dexter eyes it, then presses a button and we HEAR — DEBRA (O.S.) Dexter…DEXTER, YOU THERE?! ANSWER THE FUCKEN PHONE.
Harry stares into nothingness — then turns to his adopted son and says very softly, simply — HARRY You’re different, aren’t you, Dexter? Dexter swallows hard, looks nervously at his dad.
DEXTER (CONT’D) The only real question I have is why, in a building full of cops…all supposedly with a keen insight into the human soul, is Doakes the only one that gets the creeps from me? CUT TO: 27 OMIT 27 27 28 INT.
And as everyone rises and leaves the room, Dexter looks at LaGuerta who winks at him.
DEXTER’S APARTMENT – MIAMI, FL – EARLY MORNING 11A Dexter bounces up the exterior spiral staircase of his apartment building and as he heads down the 2nd story balcony toward his door, he sees a GARDENER whacking away with a machete trimming a tree.
DEBRA Dex…DEX…Jesus, come on, what the hell am I going to do? Dexter turns, smiles at Deb.
DEBRA Change the channel and tell me what you know about cell crystallization? DEXTER (eyes her) What do you mean? DEBRA I heard the coroner say it last night — he was talking about the dead headless chick.
DEXTER Third? (intrigued) You mean there’s… DEBRA Hell yeah we got a serial killer, Bro – the other two were up in Broward County — chopped up in bits and pieces too, and they say there’s no connection.
Then in a FLASH — Dexter, wearing a rubber apron over his clothes and his face all pressed and distorted from that shrink wrap mask is behind him — his filet knife pressed into Jaworski’s neck.
LARGE ROOM – HALF-BUILT BAYWATER PROJECTS – LATER 51 Dexter SNAPS a rubber sheet over a stack of sheet rock in the middle of the unfinished room, pats it down, then cuts pieces of Duct-tape off a large roll and sticks them to the side of the sheet rock.
PARKING LOT – 7 SEAS MOTEL – MIAMI, FL – SAME 19 Dexter keeps walking, passes LaGuerta who winks at him.
And then in a deeply heartfelt voice Donovan starts mumbling in a mantra-like way — DONOVAN (CONT’D) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord… DEXTER (furious) STOP! That never helped anyone.
DEXTER’S BOAT – CANALS – MIAMI, FL – EARLY MORNING 9 Dexter, back in casual clothes, stands behind the wheel of his boat, puttering past an early morning fishing boat — a huge smile on his face.
DEXTER (CONT’D) It took me a long time to get all these little boys clean — one of them had been in the ground so long he was falling apart — Pulled him out in bits and pieces.
DOAKES What about these? Doakes shoves a few oversized color photos of A COUPLE OF BODIES, lying dead on the carpeted floor of a large hotel room into Dexter’s hands.
But he isn’t and Deb knows it, then shovels a forkful of food into her mouth and after a couple of hearty chomps — DEBRA (with mouthful) So, how the hell was your date last night? DEXTER Great.
DEXTER (CONT’D) But I have to play the game and after years of trying to look normal, I have finally… Dexter approaches his car, opens the door, slides in — DEXTER (CONT’D) …finally met the perfect date… 33 EXT.
No one else seems to notice, but Dexter cranes his neck and SEES — A couple of POLICE CARS, AN AMBULANCE, their red and blue lights twirling and the ubiquitous yellow "Caution Crime Scene" police tape cordoning off a small area.
(beat) Why did I touch her that way? And as we push in tight to Dexter’s face, we — CUT TO: —————————————————————————————————– 40.
And with that, he fights his way through the sweltering crowd, heads toward the crime scene and Rita calls out — RITA DEX… CUT BACK TO: 44 DEXTER 44 Rushing past COPS, then SEES — Lt.
LAGUERTA You sure it was a refrigerated truck? (off his nod) But you didn’t see the driver? DEXTER Nope.
43 BACK TO SCENE 43 And Rita pulls Dexter past the kiosks and into a seething crowd of skimpily dressed WOMEN and MEN dancing and drinking tequila under the intense midnight heat.
JAWORSKI (CONT’D) Oh, God… DEXTER (tight, hard) Now talk to me about Jane Saunders.
FRONT DOOR OF A MODEST HOUSE – MIAMI, FL – SAME 33 Dexter walks up to the house RINGS the bell.
Dexter turns, but LaGuerta reaches out, grabs his hand.
Beat, then Dexter eyes her, a small smile crosses his face.
The killer is an artist… RITA (confused) What do you mean? But now Dexter’s in his own world and without even realizing it, he slowly runs his hand over Rita’s thigh, tracing out the cut marks he just saw on the bloodless body.
HARRY And this something, it makes you — kill things? After a beat, Dexter looks back at his father.
A bin filled with freshly caught RED SNAPPERS sits behind — HARRY (50’s), Dexter’s foster father — a diamond in the rough, tough exterior, but soft at heart — pulls a flask out of his pants pocket, slowly unscrews the top, downs a slug of booze, then slips the flask back into his pants.
DEXTER Now over here are nice clean sprays of blood and there’s a rhythm to them, and that can only happen when you’re holding something light, moving quick, nice, sharp slices through the body — no splashes, no drips, clean and easy, graceful cuts like skipping pebbles across a lake.
72 DEXTER 72 Turns white, then grips the wheel tighter and as the oncoming truck gets closer — 73 OMIT 73 73 74 THE TRUCK 74 SWERVES AND — A74 A SEVERED HEAD A74 Flies into Dexter’s windshield.
RITA What..? Dex, I can hardly hear what you’re… But before she finishes, Dexter’s hand is SUDDENLY way too close to Rita’s crotch and a look of horror crosses her face, she PUSHES his hand away, and quickly jumps back.
Dexter dumps that box into a garbage can, passes Masuka cataloging prints, heads toward the back of the room and enters his small little glass enclosed office — 26 INT.

What you need to realize is the fact that the first item is marked up to the point that you are basically paying for both, or receiving a minimal discount on each.If something is “buy one get one free”, do some comparison shopping first and you’ll likely find that item for less.
For other types of goods, you will be able to find it at the advertised sale price somewhere else, most likely online.
I could go on and on explaining the ways you are being tricked into giving away your hard earned money for something you don’t really need or even want.
Has there ever been a time where you realized you’d been duped into buying something you didn’t need? If you think this article might save you or someone you know money in the future, share it below.
Smart consumers know that if something is on sale somewhere, you will always be able to find it elsewhere for the same price.
I know plenty of people who will scoff at “on sale” signs, saying they are too smart to fall for them, but when they see the big red clearance rack they think, “This stuff is basically free!” Always remember to think about what you’re buying and why you’re buying it.
Don’t get me wrong, buying things on sale is great, but the problem comes when you buy something because it is on sale.
