So, in 2008 and 2009 we made the werewolf out front, the monster-in-a-box (the box with the flapping lid and red lights), the bottomless pit, the big tombstone with "Beloved" on it, the cocooned body in with the spiders, all the bottles and the "Acme Labs" sign in the lab with the mad scientist, and the PVC-pipe frame for the walls of the maze.
We’ve also built a few other things not shown, including, sadly, a great 9-foot tall façade that says "Demented Dungeon" and "abandon all hope ye who enter here" that normally goes just outside the garage door; we had to take it down because of the wind.
The Unexpected – Hide props throughout the house where people won’t expect them… Hang a dummy behind the bathroom door; place small rats or body parts in cupboards.
Although I do believe setting the right atmosphere and the help of many friends and family members are key elements in creating a haunted house, it is hard to imagine a good haunted house without terrifying props.
