Doing this will keep the chipmunks from chomping on your landscaping.
This article will help you to solve your chipmunk problem once and for all.
While this will kill the chipmunks, the method is quick and spares them pain.

Another repellent method is to use pepper spray or a spray with bitrex, thiram, or ammonium soaps (only on items NOT intended for human consumption, that is, not on your veggie plants!) I tried cayenne pepper on the crocus bulbs I planted last Fall, but it didn’t seem to help, they were planted near the rock wall (chipmunk central) and didn’t survive to sprout in Spring.
Since my "informal survey" of friends and neighbors indicates that for us, the chipmunk population explosion is very widespread, trapping chipmunks to try to bring them live to a new environment is not really an option.
This method will kill the chipmunk and although chipmunks are protected, they may be controlled in this manner when they cause property damage.
Chipmunks are part of the natural landscape and may be valued for their antics as well as their role in aerating soil, dispersing seeds and as a food source for other wildlife.

Live traps are more expensive and you’ll be spending time relocating the chipmunks that you trap, while rat traps are cheap but the mess they make can be absolutely repulsive, especially if you were a fan of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore.
Thistle seeds rather than sunflower seeds might help avert chipmunks from feeding on your bird feeders.
Using traps to get rid of chipmunks is a possibility, if the chipmunk population is small enough—this is particularly true if you’re using live traps.
Because chipmunk populations can get close to 10 animals per acre, it’s up to your and your sense of judgment about whether you should use live traps to trap the chipmunks and relocate them, or if you should employ reusable rat traps to kill the chipmunks and be done with it.
Cone-shaped metal baffles are a great way to keep chipmunks out of bird feeders and away from trees where you know there are newly born birds or bird eggs.
I’m not trying to convince you that you don’t have a chipmunk problem; I’m just trying to help you understand some of the good habits chipmunks possess.
Also, try to find ways to keep the spillage from bird feeders to a minimum, or use a kind of bird feed that chipmunks don’t like.
For this reason, it is suggested that if you’re going to use a repellent, you should buy a few different kinds of repellent and switch up the applications, so as to reduce the chances of chipmunks or any other pests getting used to the smell.
Pest specific repellents aside, almost any fungicidal spray that contains Thiram, Bitrex, or Ammonia soap will help keep chipmunks away from decorative plants via taste aversion.

Keep grasses near the edges of buildings and outdoor structures well trimmed with a weed-whacker to help avoid giving chipmunks a suitable place to travel or burrow without being seen.
Switching from one repellent to the other on a regular basis seems to be more effective than sticking to just one type of repellent; however, I wouldn’t rely on expensive repellents to get rid of chipmunks forever.
Chipmunks can be kept from burrowing under porches and structures by stapling hardware cloth around the edges of those buildings where chipmunk traffic is highest.

i’m trying hair from the haircutter, my urine after a meat dinner, some powdered blood product from agway, havahart trap, rodent poison ender a box to keep birds away, and a 5 gal barrel with water and sunflower seeds plus ramp.

Two chipmunks went in immediately, in the two buckets, but to my horror I discovered that they don’t drown!! They both swam in the bucket for hours!! Every site I read (a lot of them…) talks about how they fall in and they drown, nobody mentioned that they actually can swim, and will swim until exhausted… This is a lot more cruel than I even imagined, I cannot do this again.
However, we found you and the method of the bucket of doom!!:) Let me say that we tried it with two buckets in the back yard, and so far, have caught 10 of them over the period of two weeks.

I had gotten a Havaheart trap for squirrels, and then when I realized that I also needed to sharply reduce the chipmunk population I attached hardware cloth to the bottom and sides of the squirrel trap so it would hold those cute, destructive little critters as well.
One eradication method we used when we lived in the city was to tie a small commercial leg hold trap to the insulated power wire that lead to our two story home.
Bait—Pretty much the same as for squirrels, that is, ground corn or other grains mixed with a little peanut butter, a dab of it placed on the tray in the trap.
This was an ideal method as other than the risk of a bird alighting on the trap squirrels were the only creature around that were capable of this high wire act.
Chipmunks must be extremely prolific or some caring individual has decided the small strip of woods behind my house is a good place to put out these rodents.

Or mix up a batch of my personal repellant recipe, which also deters rabbits and many insect pests: Whiz up one clove of garlic and one hot pepper in a pint of water, strain, pour into a sprayer that has never held chemicals, add one drop each of liquid dishwashing soap and vegetable oil and spray on the plants you wish to protect, shaking frequently.
Start back at the house or other area you wish to protect and treat outward, so you don’t inadvertently push them towards your plantings or under your home, where researchers warn, they really can damage the foundation—not so much from the tiny little tunnels themselves, but from water flowing down through those holes and causing untold mischief.
If they’re undermining rock walls—a problem posed by listeners in years past—or that air conditioner support, try spraying that area heavily with deer repellant, liquid castor oil or one of those garlic sprays sold for mosquito control.

In order for these traps to work you will have to place either nuts, slices of prunes, dry cereal, raisins, or peanut butter on the ground in front of the trap for a couple of days so the chipmunks get use to the trap being there, and get use to finding food in that area.

Are chipmunks eating your bird feeder’s seed or digging holes all over your lawn and landscaped areas?  Currently there are no known (approved) chipmunk repellents on the market – live trapping and exclusion are the most effective methods of control.

For me, mice and the diseases they carry into a house are a different animal (no pun intended), and for them I have several traditional traps as well as several of the 5 gallon bucket types you describe (baited with peanut butter), filled a few inches with antifreeze (preserves the carcas, preventing the nasty smell of rotting carcasses).

These traps, like the Havahart 0745 Live Animal Professional Style One-Door Trap (1) that is available online through big retail sites such as Amazon.com, is a favorite among animal lovers because it is a humane form of pest control.

There are numerous tactics for controlling chipmunks that are causing concern or damage to your property; these range from preventive measures, such as exclusion, to repellents and trapping.
Due to the debate over the effectiveness of repellents for chipmunks, trapping is often considered to be the most practical and effective method of getting rid of chipmunks.
