line dance songs

Line dancing doesn’t have to be to country music; in fact, a lot of the group dances that are performed at weddings or other functions are considered line dances, even if they don’t necessarily require that the dancers stand in a line while dancing.
As line dancing has become more and more popular, you can expect to see more and more line dances, and hear more and more songs for line dancing being played by DJ’s and bands at all types of establishments and events.
Choose a club that is specifically country (or go on the night of the week when country music is the genre of choice) if country line dancing is your thing.

As long as everyone dances in one group and the steps repeat themselves throughout the song, the dance can be considered a line dance regardless of the formation of where all of the dancers stand.
Don’t be surprised if you enter a new dance venue and find everyone inserting an extra hand clap or making quarter turns instead of half turns; line dancing is all about being part of the community of dancers and enjoying each others’ company.
Once you join a group of dancers out on the dance floor, you can easily pick up new steps for a variety of different line dances.
The most popular line dances are very common requests for wedding receptions and other big gatherings with family, friends, and coworkers.
For country line dancing, the Boot Scootin’ Boogie is one of the simplest and common dances.
One of the reasons why many people line dancing so much is because most of the dances are very easy to learn.

If you want to ensure the guests at your party have a great time, there's nothing better to get the crowd involved than participating in a fun line dance.
created by Chicago's DJ Casper, the Cha Cha Slide is a contemporary American folk line dance with called instructions.
Born out a video by rapper VIC, the Wobble is the line dance of the new millennium.
The Cha Cha Slide — This dance is probably the #1 request at dance clubs, school dances/proms, parties, ice and roller skating rinks, bar mitzvahs and weddings.
You can say it's a mixture of The Wobble and The Cha Cha slide as it involves both calling out steps and memory to perform the dance properly.

Line dance I choreographed to my favorite song right now, Pharrell's Happy! It begins with instruction.

In no time, he two-stepped up the charts with songs like ‘Holdin’ Heaven’ ‘The First Step’ and ‘Keeper Of the Stars.’ In 1994, he found a song that radio listeners and country dancers would both enjoy in ‘Watermelon Crawl.’ Then a Top 5 Billboard single, the song is still a hardwood hit that scoots onto our list of the Top 10 Country Line Dance Songs without a second glance.
From ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie’ to ‘Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,’ there are several different line dances that are choreographed to any one song, and our focus is on the songs that fill up nightclub playlists and country radio dance events.
From country-inspired nightclubs like Billy Bob’s and Gilley’s to community centers and dance halls, it's clear that people of all ages love country line dance songs! Many credit Billy Ray Cyrus’ ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ for launching the line dance craze in the early ‘90s, and even though his novelty hit didn’t seem to stick around, he inspired several artists to record ‘danceable’ country hits.
‘J’ai Du Boogie,’ ‘Honky Tonk Twist,’ and ‘Bossa Nova’ are some of the world’s most popular country dance songs to date, thanks to Lee, but ‘Dizzy' — the countrified version of the Tommy Roe classic — has become an international line dance sensation.
Luke Bryan and his good friend Dallas Davidson wrote this song after a conversation about how the country music genre needed more songs about ‘country girls shaking it a little bit.’ After a positive response from fans when playing it live, Capitol Records and Bryan released the song as a single in 2011.
As part of the Muzik Mafia movement in 2004, Big and Rich broke through the gate with ‘Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy).’ The song was an instant smash amongst the younger generation of country fans, who found themselves making up their own line dances to this hoppin' track.
In 2005, Trace Adkins encouraged women of all sizes to be proud of what they were shaking on the dance floor with ‘Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.’ Again co-written by Dallas Davidson, as well as Jamey Johnson and Randy Houser, the song is loved by both dancers and onlookers! The 'Celebrity Apprentice' contestant delivers a hot boot-steppin' tune that should never be left off of a list like this one.

Boot Scootin’ Boogie is another classic country line dance song that, like Achy Breaky Heart, has been credited with introducing line dancing into the mainstream.
While this song may not be appropriate for every audience, it’s reuse of the catchy “Boogie Shoes” groove makes it a dance floor favorite for the ladies.
The song, originally an Oktoberfest drinking song, was written by Swiss musician Werner Thomas in the 1950s, the song was called the “The Duck Dance.” The Chicken Dance earned its name during a 1981 Oktoberfest celebration in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Arguably the most popular song of 2013, this high energy line dance puts the work into workout.
The simplicity of the dance along with the called instructions, make it a go to favorite song for weddings, birthdays and family reunions.

Over a dozen line dances were created during the 1980s for country songs.[12][13] The 1980 film Urban Cowboy reflected the blurring of lines between country music and pop, and spurred renewed interest in country culture, and western fashion, music, and dance.[1] Many early line dances, though, were adaptations of disco line dances.[14]"Boot Scootin’ Boogie" was choreographed by Bill Bader[15] in October 1990 for the original Asleep at the Wheel recording of the song of the same name.[16] The Brooks and Dunn version of the song has resulted in there being at least 16 line dances with "Boot Scootin’ Boogie" in the title,[17] including one by Tom Maddox and Skippy Blair under contract to the recording company.
The 1961 "San Francisco Stomp" meets the definition of a line dance.[2][3] At least five line dances that are strongly associated with country-western music were written in the 1970s, two of which are dated to 1972: "Walkin’ Wazi"[4][5] and "Cowboy Boogie",[6][7][8] five years before the disco craze created by the release of Saturday Night Fever in 1977, the same (approximate) year the "Tush Push" was created.[9] The Electric Slide was a Disco-based line dance created and popularized in the mid-1970s.

The remix version of the 1994 song “Booty Call” by the popular ’90s R&B group Blackstreet is used for the line dance of the same name.
This Chicago dance, created by Chicago artist DJ Casper in 2000, has become a staple at weddings, birthdays, bar mitzvahs, proms, parties—essentially anyplace people have a reason to get down on the dance floor.
If the Cha-Cha Slide is your go-to dance, chances are you’re that cousin pushing little children out of your way as you rush to the dance floor.
If the Electric Slide is the one dance you choose to bust a move to this summer, chances are you’ve lived long enough to see a lot of dances come and go over the years.
Like the Cupid Shuffle? You refuse to let a party go by without a chance to “walk it by yourself.” And once you “get down, down and do your dance,” you may even be bold enough to ask the DJ to play it again.
Danced to rapper Trina’s 2011 song of the same name, this dance out of Miami has become popular nationwide.

However, emotional sampling involves sampling not sounds, but the feeling within songs that – like "Blurred Lines" as compared to Marvin Gaye’s "Got To Give It Up" – appropriates the desire of someone to do a a two-step while smiling a certain smile and having a very precise kind of good time.
Rather, it involves putting on a suit or nice dress and knowing that after you watch someone accept the vows of marriage, that a wedding DJ is building up to playing three or four songs that he’s absolutely and positively certain will fill the dance floor.
With Avicii’s "Wake Me Up" slowly attempting to continue this current dance era’s progression to having s number one Billboard smash, it’s entirely possible that EDM producers are looking everywhere besides an obvious place that most Americans find their most basic urge to dance: wedding line dances.
As hackneyed and corny as line dances are, there is a certain emotional connection – that if located and re-produced correctly – can take the following five songs and make them into the songs that could easily put dance music on top of the charts.
The success of the "song of the summer" was that it engaged in a rare, apparently new concept that we’ll call "emotional sampling." Of course – especially in the world of EDM – sampling is fairly commonplace, as loops of familiar sounds create a feel that takes a track to a specific vibe.

Louisiana singer Cupid is hoping to score another line dance hit with his latest song, "Wham Dance," released Wednesday.
Featuring a rap from fellow Louisiana artist Mystikal, "Wham Dance" offers lively, southern marching-band energy driven by a tuba and trombone melody.
In 2008, Cupid broke a Guinness World Record for the largest line dance.
Cupid keeps the video lighthearted with a parking-lot party scene, a grandma dipping it low, a Jheri-curled elderly man dancing on the sidewalk, and cameos from former No Limit rapstress Mia X and DJ Ro.

We love to dance to this song.

WOW is only 32 counts, but it is loaded with interesting combinations.  The wonderful song by George Strait, "You Can’t Buy Your Way Out Of The Blues" inspired this dance, although I now prefer it with the brilliant song "Somethin’ In The Water" by The Cheap Seats.  I love pencil turns (also called platform turns), a rare move not often seen in line dances… I put two in this dance.
Nominated as Linedancer Magazine’s "Dance of the Year" (2000), this dance became one of the world’s "best known line dances" of 2001, -02, and -03.  The song "Whirl-Y-Reel I (Beard & Sandals Mix)" is by Afro-Celt Sound System but do not use their album version.
Santa C Boogie     Word doc – Santa Clara, Santa Catalina, Santa Cruz?  It’s NOT just for Christmas time, but this was choreographed to The Tractors "Santa Clause Boogie".  Whatever song is used, the dance is quite easy-to-learn, just 32 counts.
That is because it shows beginners right away how quickly they can master a line dance and how much fun they can have linedancing.  The song "What The Cowgirls Do" by Vince Gill gave this dance its "Cowgirls" name, but everyone has their own favorite song they use for this dance.
The original song I choreographed this quick little dance to was "Little Miss Honky Tonk", but also consider "Hey Bartender" by Johnny Lee or "C-O-U-N-T-R-Y" (Tritt) which really connects well with the footwork.  Or, for a completely different experience, choose a funky slow song.
Paul Simon’s Greatest Hits collection includes the song I choreographed this dance to, "You Can Call Me Al".  The dance is aerobic and fun, and quite unique.  The side-scooting section is a particular favorite.  In some regions, this was nicknamed "Vancouver Rip".
Faith      Word doc Inspired by George Michael’s song "Faith", this is a low intermediate dance.
As it happens, the dance is also perfect for "Jump" by the Pointer Sisters!  That song was released on Line Dance Fever 13.
Ophelia was among the most successful of the early  (1994) "funky" line dances, and it is still going strong in various regions, spread around the world, as it was, from having been chosen for so many different dance competitions.  It has been chosen for UCWDC Worlds competition, the CWLDA International Grand Championships, and many different CWDI competitions, both regional and international.
This dance was a popular ‘floor filler’ for years, and it’s appeal is not likely to age.  Try The Fantastic Shakers’ song: "Too Much Drink" as well as the original inspiration, "Wine, Women And Song".
You can also try it to the upbeat Cajun Country song "We’re Here to Stay" by Jo-el Sonnier on the same album as the song "Polk Salad Annie" for an advanced dance of mine, My Annie.
We accidently found out it goes really well to the song "Just A Little" by Liberty X and a lot of instructors have that music because of the dance S.X.E.  Or try it to a Latin song like "Loaded" for a totally different feel.
This dance is mostly the choreography of Lisa Strong, with a little help from me.  Everybody loves this song and this aerobic dance fits the music very well.
But I also love to dance this to the Bekka and Billy song "Old Hickory Lake" which is a great country option and even a little faster.
INTERMEDIATE WINNER!  A new song suggestion, "It’s Alright" by Trisha Yearwood has revitalized interest in this classic dance.
This dance was the result, but that song is killer slow, so I’m sure you will find that "Move It On Over" or "No News" are much more fun to use for this dance.
Make It Snappy      Word doc I choreographed this dance for total novices and I have successfully taught it at private parties to people who have never even seen line dancing before.
(Sorry, you cannot use the Gloria Estefan version of the song – it just doesn’t work.)  This dance has the simplest tag ever… simply hold for 2 counts.
"Boot Scootin’ Boogie" was used to set 6 consecutive Guinness World Record for the WORLD’S LARGEST LINE DANCE in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000; and in 2001 in Tamworth, Australia, each year with more dancers.
L.D.C. Express      Word doc The full original name is "Line Dance Country Express".
(The) Diamond     Word doc This is an early dance of mine and was the very first line dance to use a diamond shape pattern in a waltz.
Home on the Range     Word doc Voted Vancouver’s "Line Dance of the Year" and won me the top Western Canadian choreography award at the ODAA’s.
If you don’t like the tag (necessary because of the pause in the song "Faith"), try this dance to "Sweet Little Shoe" by Dan Seals.
Imagine a group of 22 times larger all under one roof — it was thrilling!  For more information on World Records by line dancers click here or click here to go directly to the video of the World Record, which includes many clips of this dance.
Rainbow Rhythm     Word doc – a fast intermediate dance suitable for two-step music with an original sequence of claps that give the dance its name.
It is specifically choreographed to "Flowers on the Wall" by Eric Heatherly and it requires patterning (a specific sequencing of sections of the dance pattern).  But if you learn my dance "Sweet Smile" first, this dance will be very easy… Sweet Smile is the basic 32 counts of this dance.
Jambalaya Joe    Word doc Calorie burner!  This 32-count, 4-wall line dance can take as little as 5 minutes to teach an experienced group.
Evil Weevil      Word doc Tricky!  I don’t push this dance because only a few of my intermediate dancers were able to master the evil swivels and turns.
Long Live Love      Word doc This is a one-wall intermediate dance with a double-sweeping full turn, a "Tops Turn".
Open Up     Word doc – a Latin-styled dance with interesting moves and rhythms, choreographed to "Abriendo Puertas", meaning "opening doors".
Hot Pepper     Word doc This rousing dance with quick footwork features an elevated heel click (a "bell kick"), although a scuff-scoot-step works too.
It is easy to leave out the full spin.  This line dance is a very popular in Europe.
Imagination     Word doc I choreographed it to "I’ve Got To Use My Imagination" and, if I do say so myself, it is an ‘imaginative’ dance with a very original beginning.
Still The One     Word doc – Canadian singer Jeanette O’Keeffe commissioned this dance for her first single release.  It has become a "keeper" in many regions.
At the end of a 10 week Beginner Class, I suggested to the students that if they would tell me their favorite parts from the dances they learned, we could put together a dance.  They loved the idea and I think we came up with a cute little dance.
Jump In      Word doc This 80-count dance has been alive and well in Australia and New Zealand for many years.
I choreographed this line dance to the Pointer Sisters’ mega hit "Neutron Dance".
Be sure to use my current step description for this because I had a change of mind about the choreography and it is now different from the original version of the dance (sort of like when a movie has a "director’s cut").
It could be the first waltz line dance they learn.
Dig The Groove     Word doc This is a totally unique dance, a love it or hate it.
I’m With You     Word doc Yvonne Anderson and I co-choreographed this intermediate dance.
You can order Scooter Lee’s CDs at or from your favorite line dance CD retailer.
This was my first line dance — imagine my amazement that it went worldwide.
Try this dance with people who have never seen line dancing before.
I love Dusty Springfield!  This Dusty Springfield classic inspired this unique upper beginner dance.
Kick Start     Word doc Fun syncopations in a beginner-level dance.
Chill      Word doc This dance will remind you of the R&B dance routines of The Temptations.
This dance is designed for everyone who likes rumbas (like Enchantment, Smokey Places, etc.)  I choreographed it by request… a commission from CLDAS (Singapore) for their 5th anniversary party.
Forever Dance      Word doc I really like this dance and I encourage you to give it a shot.
It is a good dance to introduce novice dancers to triples because the triples start as bumps and then progress to shuffles.
BEGINNER "WINNER"!  This is a dance you can use in your very first class.
(I also used the "Tops Turn" in Long Live Love.)  A group of us at in my class at The Lotus created this dance.
As far as anyone has been able to tell, it was the first dance of many with this name.
BEGINNER FUN!  I really enjoy the challenge of creating an easy dance that is lots of fun.
CONTRA DANCE WINNER!. This dance was awarded 1st place in competition at the popular Golden Gate Classic dance festival.

I tried their Salsa and loved it! I had an awesome teacher! I also gave their aerial dancing classes a shot, however, I enjoyed the Salsa more so i stuck to that.
