However, single birds require frequent attention to stay happy, and if the owner has limited time to spend daily with a single lovebird, it is preferable to grant the lovebird a companion of the same species, or a companion of another parrot species known to get along well with lovebirds.
Other things to be aware of when keeping lovebirds (also applies to other pet birds) at home are the danger spots in the house, such as open toilet bowls for drowning, clear glass walls which might be rammed in full force by the bird, fumes from all teflon or anti-stick coating in the kitchen, microwave coatings, oven coatings and chemical fumes from regular household cleaning products.
Lovebirds are noisy, with calls ranging from cheerily pleasant to highly irritating; in the wild, parrots must call to each other over long distances to keep flocks together, and it is through such signals that most of their communication is made.

The head is neither jet black like the masked, nor the forehead and cheeks white like the Fischer’s, retaining a somewhat muddied and less brilliant appearance when compared to the pure form.
The top picture shows a Normal Masked, note the jet black head and cheeks, yellow breast and collar.
The masked must have a pure black head; any hint of colouration in the fore head, excessive orange in the breast feathering is a good indication of a hybrid.

If this Lutino were a Lutino Opaline, her Peach mask and brow color would eventually extend to the back of her head, her rump would be yellow instead of pale blue, and her tail would have a much wider band of Peach.

The Lovebird, just like the Parrotlet, may look like a tiny helpless bird, but it will think it is bigger than you! They are as funny as they are small, add that to their beautiful plumage and you have a beautiful companion parrot.
They entertain themselves if provided a bunch of toys, but they need to play with their human flock if they are to become a companion parrot.

He is not going to be perfect, but if he is kind and thoughtful, if he knows how to work and earn a living, if he is honest and full of faith, the chances are you will not go wrong, that you will be immensely happy.” Gordon B.

I have a LOT of lovebird books, and so far this one is the very best I have seen yet for color mutations and genetics!!! Very current, in-depth coverage, especially of the Peach-faced Lovebird, with lots of good photos – not the same stock shots we are all used to!! If you have been looking for a great book on lovebird colors and genetics, this is it! Covers other lovebird species to a lesser extent.
D’Angieri’s book I have been able to identify the coloration of several other birds, but this is an incredibly complex book so the photographs are very important and if a picture of a particular type does not exist, I cannot identify it at all.

Everything about it is black: plumage, beak, tongue, legs, toe nails, even its meat, bones, and organs! The only thing that isnt black is its blood – though it comes in a very dark shade.
Female Northern Flicker…I looked at this and wondered why I am so attracted by birds….and I realized it's because they are beautiful and can fly away at any time.

Red Suffusion typically appears as a series of red "spots." It is believed that, while the feathers were developing, the Lovebird might have had a dietary or liver problem and that was the cause of the different color.

Provided with adequate space, a stimulating environment, and appropriate nutrition, a Lovebird can become a cherished companion parrot.
Lovebirds’ name comes from the parrots’ strong, monogamous pair bonding and the long periods in which paired birds will spend sitting together.
The Lutino is a color mutation of the Peach-faced Lovebird.
