My 8 year old daughter and I just completed her first sewing project using this owl template, we stuffed it instead of filling it with rice, but she is beyond thrilled! Thank you so much for such a cute project and sharing the plans with us.
I love these! I actually just finished my student teaching internship, and rather than use the owl for boo boos, it's going to make a great good-bye to my 3rd graders, telling them "Owl miss you." I'm not much of a seamstress, but I feel confident with this.
I belong to a Moms organization and a few of us have been trying to come up with just the right pattern for a boo boo type bear we could meet at a crafting date to make and then donate to either or both our local fire department for use in ambulance or fire rescue And to give to the hospital for kids that have had to come in for emergencies.
(Note: I do this because I feel like it is easier than cutting outline first and then sewing a 1/4 inch seam allowance.) Make sure you leave a couple inches open at the bottom for flipping inside out and filling with the rice.

Hi Paula, I made one of your owls and my kids LOVE it! Since it is the first stuffed animal I've made it's not perfect but pretty darn cute.
As you may have heard the City of Christchurch in New Zealand has been devestated by an earthquake which caused such sadness and loss of life. So when I found the blog post from ‘Kiwi at Heart’ collecting Softies for the kids of Christchurch I just had to be involved.
I just want to say a big 'Thank you!!' to yourself and all of the other lovely people who are making these cute softies for the children of Christchurch.
I am new to the blog world and don't know how to link yet but I mentioned your blog and your pattern when I made the post about the owl.
Did you make the blue one with the gusset out of the pattern you provided, because the ears seem a little difficult to sew around? Sorry so many questions, I am a beginner and I just need a little more instruction and help with that part, if you have the time.
Wanted to say thank you for making and sharing this pattern & tutorial.
What a lovely design, he's a hoot! I'm making some softies for Christchurch and I will definately make 'Hoot' to send to them too.
Hi, me and my 9 year old daughter made some owls using your printed pattern.
This is so very kind of you! I have copied the owl pattern and tutorial, and will make so to give away and some scaled down with a wee pocket on the back (for a tiny gift) for the Christmas tree, later in the year.

Love these owls! So so cute! I can’t seem to find the owl on the bottom in the very middle.
First of all, having them created by a wedding-planner for a wedding-ceremony does seem as ‘commercial use’ for which I did not intend the free downloadable owls to be.
I love these owls they are adorable! Unfortunately I can only get a portion of an owl on the page to print.
Thanks for sharing all this owls with us..! I collect owls and I will print one to add to my collection.
Can someone tell me how to get the other owls? I was able to download the yellow owl (Howie).
-You could print out one of the featured owls in GREY-TONES (a setting on any printer) and end up with black and white owls.

Assembly:  Each template has a small illustration of the finished owl craft to help children have an idea of how it looks when assembled.  For large groups it may help to have a cut out craft and place small pieces of tape behind each piece and show on a board a sequence of assembly.  Help children with location of accessory theme pieces.
Proceed with craft assembly.  Show the small image provided in the template to help the children see how the finished craft looks and to aid them in positioning the pieces.  After completing the craft the children can hold their finished craft while conducting some of the activities below.
To create the branch, cut a letter L shape on the brown paper material the lengh of the blue construction paper and invert it.  Cut wavy patterns of the letter L to make it more realistic.  Glue the branch to the blue construction paper.  Glue the finished owl craft,  and glue the moon in place, add some easy face features to the moon.
Print black & white template on card stock and use as a master template.  Trace the patterns on folded construction paper or left-over paper to obtain pieces needed in each color.
** Valentine’s Day:  The heart theme lends itself to decorate the owl in Valentine colors to make a cute greeting card or decoration.  Accessories:  Heart balloon with message or blank black and white version – make a large greeting card.

Lead the class in a get-to-know-you game! Read the clues aloud and invite students to guess which classmate made each owl.
For example, “I am the tallest boy in class.” Encourage students to give one physical trait and one personality trait or personal preference.
Reproduce the body and wings onto brown or orange construction paper, the feet and beaks onto orange construction paper, and the eyes onto white construction paper.
Invite students to write their names on the owl’s body.
Help students use brass fasteners to attach the top of the wings to the owl’s shoulders.

I am looking for a CD with the song Five Little Hoot Owls its the words to the poem, “One little Hoot Owl Looking at you, one more came and then there were two! Two little hoot owls in a big tree, one more came and then there were three, etc.
