website like ebay

Since its humble beginnings in 1995, US-based Craigslist has become a huge website like eBay that provides a no-fee classified ads platform that’s been a boon for both sellers and buyers all over the world.

With ebay making major changes in fees, charging more from the sellers and putting a restriction on the minimum resolutions required to upload the product’s photo.. I believe the best would be to look for an alternative which is best in the competition and which allows you to keep all your earning to yourself and not share it.

Once they pointed out that it would be helpful to put either the model # or a size in the title, I agreed, no problem….But, they refused to take the 7 day hold off of my account anyway, like I needed to be punished? I have been selling on their site, unhappily for over 10 years, but in the product line I sell, restaurant equipment, Ebay has a lot to learn.
But if Ebay limits how many items you can sell in a month, how can you sell the 100 items to make up for the one star rating? You can’t, so you ultimately lose your account and selling privileges.
Posted by cheesey socks on 19:34 28 Nov ebay is a bag of s**t.. and i would to see ebay go down, i have had too much bad experiences with ebay not to mention the over rated fees they charge, i mean wtf? we use their website to sell our goods and the next thing you know is they are back firing on the sellers that do ebay good.. i’ve had it with them, i wouldnt consider them for a cheese! they can go banana’s all they want i dont give the efin what they do any more.
Posted by cathleen conn on 20:51 10 Jul I have been selling high brand items on Ebay for a little over two years.
So, in that 3 month time, if you don’t sell enough, your account gets restricted, Ebay limits how many items you can sell after the first 1 star rating too.
Posted by Sandy on 16:44 27 Mar I’ve given my last hundred dollars, or more, to Ebay….I’ve worked within their continued changing policies, but this last deal has broken the camel’s back for me…They locked my account up for 7 days because they said I double listed an item? What? Who would do that on purpose anyway? You have to pay for each listing anyway…. But, the fact of the matter was, I did not double list an item.
Ebay told me I couldn’t sell because it "questioned my selling practices" yet people are lying about where their items are coming from, a lot say USA when they are really coming from China and are fake, and others have below 85% ratings but they are still allowed to sell.
Posted by jam on 2:40 26 Mar Good Grief! I’ve been reading terrible accounts of other seller’s problems with ebay, but yours takes the gold star award.
Posted by vsolosky on 23:22 21 May I’m am sick of Ebay – I am a seller of handmade items – of which it is clearly stated in the listings AND my turnaround time of 20 days for creation.
Posted by Joshua on 23:47 6 May Ebay does not stand behind their sellers anymore, it’s all about the buyers and they can say and do whatever they want and keep your item and their money.
Posted by anna cuervo on 9:12 5 Dec i have been selling on ebay for 4 years, averaging around 2,000 a month.
I lived with a friend 3 years ago and we both had separate Ebay accounts.I get an email yesterday stating my account has been temporarily suspended…I call and they tell me my friends account and been banned therefor my account is now suspended…I tell them I haven’t lived with or seen the guy in over 3 years.
In my opinion, eBay and Amazon are good places to start selling your items due to their uncomparable traffics but not good for places for a long-term business.
Posted by ahnurae on 18:17 14 May I have been selling on ebay for over 7 years and am so thankful for this information.
Although I am clearly a small time seller on eBay I have taken pride of the fact that I have remained at the 100% rating level until recently when I dropped to 97.1%. This was due to a buyer who purchased a cell phone charger MOT-V3 for $2.99 and wanted to return it because it was the wrong item.
Still, if you can put up with these difficulties, Amazon is a good place to sell, particularly items such as electronics where the margins are practically non-existent on eBay.
Posted by Bonanza Seller on 21:55 4 Jun Bonanza is the ONLY real alternative to Ebay and Amazon right now (June 4th 2014).
Posted by Atticman2014 on 21:19 21 May In addition to their unfair fees they protect the buyers and not the seller way too much. This is my letter to the President of eBay on May 7, 2014.
Even though he agreed I had not double listed an item? So, now I"m going to move my account to a place where they don’t take all my money, and then tell me how to sell, when I’ve been selling for over 25 years myself.

Jun 8, 2011 — Building a website like eBay can be relatively inexpensive to start.
Jun 17, 2012 — I'd like to build a website that is similar to eBay.
This specific can basically handle an unlimited amount of auctions and has none of the limitations of real life auctioning, like: time, location or storage space.
I want to make an auction site like ebay.
How to Start a Site Like eBay.
Then you could create an auction area on the site just for the cards and start building your customer base.  Once your site gains popularity then you can think about expanding to offer more categories.  Of course baseball cards was just an example.  You would choose a topic you have an interest in and are knowledgeable about.
So going with the baseball theme example, you could go to other baseball related websites and start promoting there.  Perhaps you could suggest link swaps with these webmasters to start funneling in some traffic.  As I said earlier, you’ll have much less competition going this route than if you just tried to push a brand new ebay-like auction site that sells everything.
If you want to build a successful auction web site, I would suggest that you begin by creating your site on a specific, well-defined niche and starting a small auction that caters only to that niche.  Then once your site becomes successful, you can expand into other areas.
For example, let’s say your site is about baseball cards.  You could create an entire site dedicate to information on the cards.  You would use the search engines (Google, MSN, etc.) to attract people searching for this topic.

It’s the most successful auction site on the web and is a great example of how you can capitalize on a concept that has never been developed online.  They may not have been the first to attempt an auction website, but they were definitely the first to do it right.
So you would be competing with millions and millions of sites with a topic that broad.  Try narrowing it down and focusing your auction site on one theme at first and then work on expanding.
I am here to build a Big Online Store or eCommerce for you like eBay and Amazon, Unique and responsive Theme will be used as per you demand.

Online Auction Fees Simplified: The Cost of Selling Online.
But older routers are finding it difficult to manage with newer technology – such as and tablets which have drastically increased the number of people online and the time spent online.
When visiting a website, users rely on machines called routers to remember how to navigate trusted routes through the ever-expanding internet.
Major technical problems could become a regular occurrence for website users because the internet is running out of space, experts have warned.
James Gill, chief executive of Internet traffic monitoring firm GoSquared, said: ‘This is likely to happen more and more the devices there are and the less the infrastructure is going to be able to cope.
Weekly Internet retail sales averaged £729 million in June – meaning more of these problems could see online retailers losing millions of pounds of trade in the future.
An online breakdown caused chaos on Tuesday, costing the economy millions of pounds in lost trade and effectively closing access to a number of huge websites.
IPv4 exhaustion is contributing to this problem because as IPv4 resources get more limited they are handed out in smaller groups which makes the number of prefixes increase.
The system is similar to the human brain being unable to cope with remembering ‘all the back streets’ on a long car journey, said Dr Joss Wright, a research fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute.
The number of groups of IP addresses that can be held in the very fast type of memory required for this job is limited to 512,000 in some routers.
Some machines impose an arbitrary upper limit of 512,000 different routes, a number that experts say is out of date.
This took the total number of prefixes (packets of IP addresses) from about 500,000 to 515,000 so this pushed past the limit and meant that routing stopped working in parts of the US.
The problem is understood to have been caused by the crucial ‘nuts and bolts’ of the internet – called the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP).
Internet companies and large networks use this ‘route map’ – consisting of hundreds of thousands of complex paths through the web – to send information to each other.
They have imposed a huge volume of extra traffic onto the web, leaving some routers struggling with lack of memory and processing power.
The cause of this issue was that a major American networking company took one large group of IP addresses and split it into 15,000 smaller groups.
Agile will not be suitable for a project like Ebay and Amazon, waterfall will be the ideal methodology, as Ebay and Amazon will not want their customers to place their orders but find out that the payment gateway is not yet ready or the delivery functionality has not yet been developed.
At first I felt why can’t it just be all coding but after I got into the core areas software engineering, I now find that I cannot write on single line of code with out thinking of requirement gathering, cost estimation, selecting the best AD Methodology, usecases, complex class diagram, sequence diagram, deployment diagram, if waterfall methodology then FDD and DFD, VDM-Specification Language, usability and a requirement specification document (Contract).
Use of this web site constitutes acceptance of the eBay User Agreement and Privacy Policy.
With as many as 4.5 million auctions and 13,000 categories, as well as tools similar to those offered by eBay, eBid’s fees are competitive and worth a look if you’re looking for online auction sites other than eBay.
I’ve been dealing with ebay, not good, between category limits that aren’t in black and white (I’m talking about handcrafted handbags)(I now have a cedar closet full) limit is 20 a month depending on who you talk to, and fees, not to mention that I can’t access the combined invoice feature (neither could their csr), which panics the buyer since they see shipping adding up, not combining, they may be at the top now, I don’t see them staying there.

Google officially rolled out Panda 4.0 on May 20, 2014, and since then it’s been a wild ride for websites that push a lot of "other people’s content." Panda 4’s unofficial mission is to penalize the regular use of duplicate content, especially syndicated content brought in via feeds, scraping or other automatic processes.
Sites like eBay, Ask.com and retailmenot.com took huge hits in traffic and keyword rankings (>50 percent loss or more) because they routinely publish content grabbed from elsewhere, often without proper attribution or added value.
Many sites actually got a boost in organic traffic from Panda 4.0. Which ones? Websites that consistently publish original, high quality content widely shared and commented upon.
Google has once again made it clear it favors quality over quantity, authorship and sharing over duplication, and it will severely penalize sites that still try to game the system with content that fails to meet these standards.
Most sites were unaffected, but the message is clear—Google will no longer tolerate websites that publish other peoples’ content without adding value or that publish lots of "thin content" for purposes of SEO enhancement.

On May 8, 2008, eBay announced the opening of its newest building on the company’s North Campus in San Jose, which is the first structure in the city to be built from the ground up to LEED Gold standards.[41] The building, the first the company had built in its 13-year existence, uses an array of 3,248 solar panels, spanning 60,000 square feet (5,600 m2), and providing 650 kilowatts of power to eBay’s campus.[42][43] The array can supply 15%–18% of the company’s total energy requirements, reducing the amount of greenhouse gases that would be produced to create that energy by other means.[42] SolarCity, the company responsible for designing the array, estimates that the solar panels installed on eBay’s campus will prevent 37 million pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the environment as a result of replaced power production over the next three decades.
For instance, in late 1999, a man offered one of his kidneys for auction on eBay, attempting to profit from the potentially lucrative (and, in the United States, illegal) market for transplantable human organs.[64] On other occasions, people and even entire towns have been listed, often as a joke or to garner free publicity.[citation needed] In general, the company removes auctions that violate its terms of service agreement.
eBay requires sellers to include the VAT element in their listing price and not as an add-on and thus profits by collecting fees based on what governments tax for VAT; it not only receives fees as a percentage of the sale price "ex VAT" but also the same percentage on the VAT itself.[31] In a similar manner eBay also charges its FVF on the shipping fees charged by the Post Office (USPS) or other third party shippers, even when shipping is a separate charge.
The Final Value Fee amounts to 10% of the total amount of the sale, which is the price of the item plus shipping charges.[26] Fixed-price listings have an insertion fee of $0.30, and the final value fee varies based on category and total amount of the sale (e.g., 13% for DVDs & Movies up to $50).[27] The UK based ebay.co.uk[28] takes from £0.15 to a maximum rate of £3 per £100 for an ordinary listing and from 0.75% to 10% (writing as of June 2009) of the final price.
In November 1996, eBay entered into its first third-party licensing deal, with a company called Electronic Travel Auction to use SmartMarket Technology to sell plane tickets and other travel products.
In addition to its auction-style sales, the website has since expanded to include "Buy It Now" shopping; shopping by UPC, ISBN, or other kind of SKU (via Half.com); online classified advertisements (via Kijiji or eBay Classifieds); online event ticket trading (via StubHub); online money transfers (via PayPal)[7] and other services.
At the 2008 eBay Developer’s Conference, eBay announced the Selling Manager Applications program (SM Apps).[73] The program allows approved developers to integrate their applications directly into the eBay.com interface.[74] The applications created by developers are available for subscription by eBay members who also subscribe to Selling Manager.
By early 2008, the company had expanded worldwide, counted hundreds of millions of registered users, 15,000+ employees and revenues of almost $7.7 billion.[19] After nearly ten years at eBay, Whitman decided to enter politics.
Growth was phenomenal; in January 1997 the site hosted 2,000,000 auctions, compared with 250,000 during the whole of 1996.[12] The company officially changed the name of its service from AuctionWeb to eBay in September 1997.
eBay also runs buses between San Francisco and the San Jose campus to reduce the number of commuting vehicles.[41] In 2014, eBay and several other Oregon businesses signed the Oregon Business Climate Declaration to promote local job growth and slow carbon pollution.
The company manages eBay.com, an online auction and shopping website in which people and businesses buy and sell a broad variety of goods and services worldwide.
It was announced on September 30, 2014, that Ebay would spinoff PayPal into a separate publicly traded company, which is taking steps that were first demanded nine months ago by activist hedge fund magnate Carl Icahn.
eBay has its share of controversy, including cases of fraud, its policy of requiring sellers to use PayPal, and concerns over forgeries and intellectual property violations in auction items.
Although some state laws require resident purchasers to pay use tax on out-of-state purchases, it is not a common practice.[citation needed] However, sellers that operate as a business do follow state tax regulations on eBay transactions.[29][30] However Value Added Tax (VAT), a form of sales tax in EU countries, is different.
The UK version was launched to eBay members in mid-October 2006 but on January 29, 2008 eBay announced its intention to close the site.[71] The German version, eBay Express Germany,[72] was also opened in 2006 and closed in 2008.
eBay runs an affiliate program under the name eBay Partner Network.[39] eBay affiliate marketers were originally paid a percentage of the eBay seller’s transaction fees, with commissions ranging from 50% to 75% of the fees paid for an item purchased.
"The exact same units direct from the manufacturers at 10 percent of the price."For Amazon, which has built its business on being able to undercut the competition, the arrival of Alibaba, and its hordes of Chinese manufacturers willing to sell direct, is a frightening prospect.
In 2003 Meg Whitman led the charge with a $150 million purchase of the Chinese e-commerce company Each-net, an acquisition that gave eBay control of 85 percent of China’s online shopping activity.
Last year there was over $240 billion in sales on Alibaba, more than Amazon and eBay combined.
By 2006, Alibaba had passed eBay to become China’s biggest e-commerce company.
Alibaba lets merchants list for free on sites like Taobao, but it charges them a premium if they want their goods promoted in its search engine.
not an auction site, but a site the will let user sell their products and the money will be divided by the site owner and the seller of that product.
A project theme, and a theme that’s like the fiverr site that allows users to sell their services and the site owner gets a percentage or set fee on the sale.
Users put up an auction, and the site owner(s) get a percentage or set fee for initial setup and on the sale.
the owner of the site will receive 10% of the payment and the member who sell the product will receive 90%.
The API does not limit functionality, rather it would be better stated, WordPress API design requires sellers to go into the admin backend panel, secondly, the multi-vendor schema works better on a MU setup and not a single install.
In the process, I’ve yet to find an enterprise Ebay-like script for WordPress (or that even comes close) that is eloquent, efficient and provides the hardy functions of Ebay.
I’ll just need visitors to register to have access to their account/profile pages where they can upload "stuff" to sell (basically, product’s info + pics), but there WON’T be actual selling/buying, just listings of whatever users have uploaded categorized under whatever they fit into, and other people/visitors just browsing these "stuff".
It is a great plugin indeed, though not free ($149 at the time I purchased) but because Web development is mostly my job, I could build websites on WordPress that generate money for me, way more than just $149, that’s why I think it was a good investment to make.
The WordPress API does not lend well for an Ebay/Esty like script on a single install nor can a WordPress MU install compete with an Ebay like script.
As for my case, the project has eventually shifted to be more of a classifieds website than a multi-vender e-store, so WordPress was obviously able to handle that.
Even though WordPress is an incredibly extensible CMS and already powering many e-commerce sites, there doesn’t seem to be a way currently to build something like ebay on top of WordPress.
So, would you recommend WordPress for this type of website? If yes, what plugins, etc.
My last experience where Tradera customer support effectively refused to assist me other than telling me to negotiate with the seller who lied on the auction is proof that they (Tradera) don't give a hoot.
